Question about 1993 Dodge Dakota
93 Dakota 6cyl, 4X4, wont start, no spark, coil is good, fusses are good, new fuel pump.
Has SMEC (don't know if it is good) Ran great yesterday.
Lights work. Check engine light is only on while the starter is spinning.
Don't want to buy a SMEC unless I know for sure it is bad.
Are you sure it is getting fuel? and did you test it for spark? even though you said a new coil it may have a crank sensor out. have to do scan. you truck may be able to tell you by turning the key on and off without starting 3 times and the 3rd time leave it on and watch the engine light it should start flashing. 12 and 55 are nothing they are 12=beginning or battery was disconnected some time and 55 =end of the test. the light will flash pause for a bit and then flash again then a longer pause and onto the next fault. 55 is the end. it may take you 2 or 3 times doing this to get the hang of it. paper and pen required for this along with the key. then go on the internet Dakota Trouble Codes with the link and get the issue. or this forum register and ask away.

Go to the junk yard and see if they will let you test it with a similar box off one of the junked Dakotas.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Ok, couple of things to check.
First take it to a local parts store or shop, and have them do a load test on your battery. It could be that it has gone bad.
There are a couple of different wiring harnesses you want to check. Check your main battery wiring connection, there are a number of wires that have quick connects. If these get loose, you can run into the no charge problem.
There is a wiring harness that goes down the passenger side of the firewall, in the V-8 this was a problem area because of the heat from teh headers would melt the wiring or the connector plugs
There is a regulator in the PCM, there is a way to bypass and test this that is outlined in the service manual (sorry I don't have access to one) but you may want to contact a shop that has one, and ask them if you can look it over.
Pheewww ok, there's a few things to start with.
I would be looking closely at the wiring. When I had my Dakota, I ran into a number of problems that ended up being related to wiring, more then anything else.

first make sure its not in 4x4 and all wheels spin freely. it could be tire, but double ck the u-joints on the rear drive shaft. maybe rotate the tires front to back to see if makes a difference. i would also recommend making sure all running gear fluids are full. (transmission, transfercase, and differential.)
