Question about 1998 Isuzu Rodeo

1 Answer

Anti theft dash light is blinking on my 1998 rodeo and will not start now. Tried unhooking battery to reset, but no luck. Will not crank from jumping off either. Battery is good, all lights and the radio come on.

Close the hood and get in and lock everything, then get out of the passenger side only, this will disable the anti theft relay to the alarm. Now walk around to the back and unlock it with the key, then to the drivers door and un lock it with the key too, pull the hood release and check under the hood for your fuse box, or wherever your fuse box is. Disconnect the negative battery cable and start popping the fuses in and out 1 at a time, keeping them in the right spots until everything is back to normal.

I'm assuming its an original alarm or system that came from factory or dealer. When the light blinks is because the alarm is activated. Look underneath the radio the alarm brain might be there. There will be a label on it saying alarm or security system etc. Disconnect the harness to it and try operating your vehicle.

Battery went dead, so I replaced it. now the anti theft system wont let it start

You need to manually reset the anti-theft system. I don't know what kind of car you have but most anti-theft systems are located just underneath the dash behind the steering wheel. It will probably be a little black box, maybe with a red light, but there should be a button on it that you need to press and hold for about 5 seconds then try to start the car again. Some of them you need to have the ignition on when you do the reset.

Anti theft light blinking, dash lights up,windows roll up and down but car wont start. How do I start it?

If the anti theft light is blinking and you say that everything else fine.. My first thought is that the key is not programmed to the vehicle. The key has a internal chip that must be programmed to vehicle in order to start. Now my other question is, Is the key your using for the vehicle the original key or have you just recently had a key made? Regardless, in order for the yur Tribute to start, the key. Or keys have to be program to vehicle by your neighbor dealership. Thats the reason for your anti theft light is blinking

Anti theft wont let me start car

The problem may not be with anti-theft but with a bad fuel pump,cam/crank sensor etc. Also, you may try unlocking the drivers door with the key. On most cars that is the standard method for disabling the security system.

The factory anti-theft system may not like the chip in the key you are using.
You may have to get a new key or have the system tested.
