My 2003 Mercedes SLK230 Kompressor. once in a while, i'll go to start it, turn the key, all the dash lights work, but engine doesnt crank pls HELP!

Have you had the battery itself tested? Features like the lights and power windows do not use a lot of battery power. A starter motor will use at least 9 volts on a 12 volt battery. Batteries usually only last about 5 to 8 years before they start to fail, less if you have 'start-stop' fitted to your vehicle.

My 2000 dodge ram 1500 will not start. All of the lights and radio work but when i turn the key nothing happens. It doesnt make any noises when i turn the key. It has plenty of gas. I switched some fuses...

Have experienced this problem twice in life. Once on my 1968 Oldsmobile and recently on my daughters 2001 Dodge truck. Crawled under it and beat on starter with a hammer. The brushes wear thin and at some point lose contact with armature. Was able to get contact, start the vehicle and get it to a more suitable repair location. If this works, remember it is a temporty fix. The brushes and/or starter will need replaced. Good luck.

My dodge neon it won't start. it doesn't click. The radio and lights come on but will not start what could it be?

First of all before you spend a lot of money with computer mechanic or personal machanics
try a little trouble shooting yourself. My sons neon would not start it started out as beinging a intermittent problem 1. It had a very old battery we replaced it seemed like this sovled the problem it started and ran for a couple of weeks, then same problem. This seemed like it may be a wiring or inition problem, jumped from the + batt. to the starter relay coil w/ key turned on it started every time was thinking it was the inition. Tried one more thing switched A/C relay w/starting relay in engine compartment fuse box. wa la no money for the greedy mechanic.

Battery was replace 2 yrs ago. I had an issue with the car dying on me a few weeks ago. I wiggled the positive wire and it started. Now 2 weeks later, i tried the same thing when it decided not to start....

Take the battery cables off one by one and clean the inside of the clamps with sandpaper/emery cloth. do the post also, re-clamp and try again. Many times the inside of the cables become corroded and have enough contact to power the lights but when you try to start it there is not enough flow to turn the starter.

if the starter is clicking, try tapping on it with a hard piece of wood, like that of a hammer handle, while someone tries to start the car. if it starts, replace the starter. also make sure electrcal connectins on the starter are tight and clean. and check the starter relay if applicable

2001 Cadillac Deville problems starting

I have had the same problem and I have come to the conclusion it is the security system. After 3 minutes the car will start so there is nothing wrong with the battery or starter. I have had it to the dealer a few times and they cannot solve it. It may be the locks on the doors and they may not be resetting properly. I have learned to live with it.

2006 Jeep Wrangler won't start

First, make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't then the starter can't turn it either. Have someone else turn the key and look for the source of the click...may be a relay. Go over the starting circuit with a volt meter. Check for power at the starter main terminal and then with the key turned to "start" check for power at the trigger terminal on the starter. Check battery voltage and check relay operation.
You have a neutral safety switch on the transmission if its an automatic and a clutch switch if it's a stick. Check them as well. Make sure battery grounding on fender and block are also clean and secure.
