Need to know how to recode the keyless lock system on the door

I purchased a used 2001 lincoln town car that has no manual. I know the code for the door keyless entry lock system, but I want to change it to fit me. How do I change the code on the door?

I tried the solution but it did not work.  Thanks though.  Thee 2001 code must be different to change than the 1988.

I have a 1988 Lincoln Mark VII but this still should work.

You first need to enter in the code you have. Then, within five seconds press the 1/2 button. Then, within five seconds of each other, press five buttons in any sequence you desire and this will be your new code. Hope this helps.

The code you have must be the factory code and not a code that was programed in for it to work. The factory code will not be erased and can always be used even when you put a new code in.

Locked keys in 1999 lincoln town car executive and no keyless entry. can I gain entrance without an expensive locksmith?

Hello Jennifer Jackson...

No... even LINCOLN windows are harder to break
(sorry... your LINCOLN is pretty secure).

Worse... the best price I've paid to get a double sided
PATS (passive anti-theft system) key cut = $6.

Bring your own key... But this was all about the price of PREVENTING your current situation... (oops).

If your ONLY key is truly "inside"...
Your goose is pretty much cooked... The cost of
the LOCKSMITH is pretty trivial compared to your
alternatives... Dealers will zing you MUCH BETTER
than your "expensive locksmith"...

But what ever you do... (my recommendation)... Since
you prefer not to be prepared... (no door code or FOB)
Don't pass on the opportunity to have that same SMITHY
at least tell you about your door code POSSIBILITIES
or at least program a remote FOB for you ...

A RESPONSIBLE "expensive locksmith" will
explain the WISDOM of NEVER having less than 2 (TWO) transponder keys. (by reading your owners manual you can program the FOBs yourself (FREE).

How do you manage the "no" keyless entry...?
I remain pretty sure the number pad... & KEY FOB
(wireless transmitter) were standard equipment...

2 SPARE keys minimum... ALWAYS.

Any Ford or Lincoln dealer can help you. You'll need to visit them in person and produce proof of ownership (title, registration, etc.).

What would you do when your 1996 lincoln town car doors won't lock with the key. And the trunk won't open.

How can a lock not lock or unlock with a physical key? Maybe the cylinders are frozen? Try squirting a little oil into the locks.
1996 Town Cars have keys and keyless entry. The physical keys are two, an ignition key and a door key. You can't use the door key in the ignition, nor the ignition key in the door. They aren't interchangeable.
The default key code for keyless entry is posted on the right trunk hinge, inside the trunk.

I have 1992 Lincoln Towncar. I can use the keyless

You probably have a bad hazard switch.

For the code,
1. Look on the deck lid arms for a small tag with the permanent code.
2. If you purchased new, call selling dealer to see if they have it recorded on the invoice.
3. Look in the glove box owner manual package for a credit card size plastic card with the code number.
4. Pay dealer 1/2 hour labor charge to retrieve the code with their diagnostic tool. Confirm price ahead of time.
5. Look on keyless entry module for the tag with the code.

For 1994 town car, module is behind glvoe box. Not sure for 1992, sinnce 94 was a new model design.

Door Lock Control Processor, Electronic Removal and Installation
  1. Drop glove compartment door. Refer to Section 01-05 .
