1996 v6 chevy silverado idles fine but once you hit the throttle it's as if it's not getting enough fuel. Any suggestions? Catalytic converter maybe?

Recently changed fuel pump and filter. V6 motor has lousy response once you hit the throttle. Seems as if it is not getting enough fuel. Any suggestions?

Run fault codes and look for throttle position sensor problem. cat converter problems are apparent at high RPM's under load as the cat converter blocks the exhaust pipe.

SOURCE: my engine seems like it

there area few different problems that can cause this to happen. If the check engine light is on, you can take it to a local auto parts store, and they will have a basic OBD II scanner and usually can point ya in the right direction as to where the problem is. Personally I would start with checking the throttle position sensor, these are notorious for going out on the 3.8.

SOURCE: PO420 CODE ON CHEVY S10

Hi

The code means---

Catalyst Efficiency
Below Threshold
(Bank 1)

Please make sure there is no air entering the engine behind the maf, such as a vacuum leak or leaks in ducting between the maf and the throttle body.

If that's no the case then its an issue with injectors clogging and they are not working due to "fretting". This "fretting" is electrical terminals to injectors getting oxidation on them and is fixed by unplugging them and replugging them in. The fix is to put a small dab of die-electric grease on the terminals.

I would suggest an injector service with the new GM procedure using "Top Engine Cleaner". This may be all you need but that P0420 bothers me. P0420, Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold, can be set by a poor connection at the PCM or a damaged wiring harness.

Please rate this soluton as FixYa if found useful.

Thanks

SOURCE: NEED DIAGRAM OF 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK EXT

fuel pump is on the engine or either in the gastank follow the fuel line chevys are the easiest auto to work on a new i think yours is in your tank remove both straps and remove hose to filler neck. the fuel **** is in the center of th tank removed by a lock washer system holding the pump in also be careful that you follow the fuel lines though and that you remove bolts that hold the fuel ine to the frame and up to the engine or fuel filter then engine an up to the carb that way you can lower tank without bending fuel line any way however you took it off put it back if a human put this thing together then a human can fix it

Run pressure test on your fuel injectors. Fuel pump might not be suppling enough fuel line pressure.

2005 chevy silverado loss of power while down shifting up a hill at 70mph.

It's probably an accurate accessment. This is a Classic case of how one part damages another.

When the engine misfires it clogs the Catalytic converters. Sometimes the Catalytic converter can repair itself through miles of driving with a well tuned engine. But it may be damaged beyond repair and needs to be replaced after the engine is tuned up. Time will tell.

You can not expect the engine to idle smoothly when the sensors for the Catalytic converters are trying to lean out the engine. The Catalytic converters are indicating they are full of unburned fuel and are running way too rich so the engine controls set everything lean. You have poor idle and lack of power because of this.

You need to find out why the engine is misfiring. The better and more costly Scanners have a Diagnostic priority program to suggest the most probable cause of the problem, then the next, and so on. By process of elimination the problem is found. You need this type of scan.

Autozone, Oreilys, and Advance will give a free scan, but they need to use the better Scanners to prioritize your defets.

You may have dirty fuel injectors in addition to spark misfiring issues. But usually the Scan would show individual cylinders that are getting too much fuel. So be aware that once you start making repairs, the now overwhelmed onboard computer can start pinpointing more problems.

You next move is to start checking the parts the scanner says is defective.

The truck sometimes barely starts. then once it does, it idles fine. but when you give hard acceleration, it falls on its face. not the fuel pump or the filter, and definately not spark. its a 96 chevy 350...

Lets go back to the fuel pump. I am working on one now that has the same symptoms. It turns out it is the fuel pump. Still pumping fuel, just not enough pressure. Hard start, idles fine give it some fuel and dies. One other thing that I can think of that will do this is clogged catalytic converters.

My 1996 chevy silverado runs so poorly that it vibrates it pulls hills about 25 mile an hour i cant give it throttle because it would fall on its face

is your check engine light on? if so, have the codes read at your local auto parts store. having these codes can narrow your search to find the cause of your problems

Autozone.com has a great site that tells you how to test sensors and hard parts. become a member and search their repair guide

These are things I would consider;

Clogged fuel filter / injectors / contaminated fuel
Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
Clogged Catalytic Converter
Worn / corroded ignition parts.

2000 Dodge Neon cutting out

This sounds like the symptoms of a choke being left on, but of course you have a fuel injected car. Could it be a computer problem, too much fuel getting to the engine?

1996 Chevy Express 1500 w/5.0 bogging only when warm.

The cylinder 7 misfire is likely a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself.

Typically, the catalytic converter has an oxygen sensor in front and behind it. When the vehicle is warm and running in closed loop mode, the upstream oxygen sensor waveform reading should fluctuate. The downstream 02 sensor reading should be fairly steady. Typically the P0420 code triggers the check engine light if the readings of the two sensors are similar. This is indicative of (among other things - such as faulty sensors in the "emissions loop") a converter that is not working as efficiently as it should be.

I do not believe that it is a problem with a valve/head gasket or cam.
