Where is air flow meter located

The air mass sensor is located on the left hand side of the engine compartment. Follow the large hose which starts out as plastic down and to the front of the car. you will reach a rubber hose about 4" in diameter. It is attached to the back of the air mass sensor.
They stopped using air flow meters in 1979 (I beleive) Then they switched to what they call a "hot wire air mass sensor".

The car stalls out while driving sometimes, but it will start right back up with problem. Theres no engine light on, or anything else on.

. Check the Mass Air Flow Sensor voltages. Verify good battery voltage to the Mass Air Flow Sensor on the White/Black wire. Verify good grounds for the Mass Air Flow Sensor on the two Black wires - look for 0.05 volts or less to be ok. Check the output voltage from the Mass Air Flow Sensor on the White wire - specification is less than 0.5 volts key on engine off and 1.0 - 1.3 volts at warm idle. The Green/Orange wire at the Mass Air Flow Sensor is not used. The Mass Air Flow Sensor can test good and still be defective.

2. Make sure the timing belt is not off a tooth. Can check ignition timing to see if one bank is on. May need to get into compression on each bank but a timing belt off a tooth or two will idle poorly but can run better at higher RPM.

How do I replace the mass airflow sensor on a 2004 Maxima?

The mass air flow sensor will be in the air intake going to the throttle body. Look for a 3-4" hose, trace that back to a box looking component. The sensor should be in there.

Mass air flow sensor

maf sensors identify the amount of air flow flowing in the intake. the sensor works with the throttle so it knows how much air is coming in to add the proper amount of fuel to mix with the air. Easy to pull and replace.
