4x4 vacuum problems on 97 Dodge Ram 1500

I have a 97 ram 1500 5.9. I recently replaced the actuator and the control switch on the t/c and am getting vacuum to the switch, but nothing comes from the switch to the actuator. I pull the lines off the switch and bypass it running straight to the actuator and get 4 wheel drive every single time. Any suggestions, is there something in transfer case that may be broken, I cannot afford to keep guessing parts here, I need a fix and permanent one,

How do you replace the range rod to make sure, or do you have to take out entire transfer case

The range rod in the transfer case might not be moving the vaccum switch to switch

Check the steel vacuum line that runs along the front side of the cross member, specifically on the side where the Cat is located. Mine rusted completely through. Probably the heat from the Cat.

2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 vacuum hose and line placement diagram

Here is a general vacuum hose and line placement diagram for a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4:

1. The vacuum line from the engine intake manifold should be connected to the vacuum reservoir tank.
2. The vacuum line from the vacuum reservoir tank should be connected to the vacuum actuator on the front axle.
3. The vacuum line from the vacuum actuator on the front axle should be connected to the transfer case.
4. The vacuum line from the transfer case should be connected to the vacuum actuator on the rear axle.
5. The vacuum line from the vacuum actuator on the rear axle should be connected to the vacuum reservoir tank.

It is important to note that the specific placement and routing of vacuum hoses and lines can vary depending on the make and model of your Dodge Ram 1500, as well as any modifications that may have been made to the vehicle. It is always recommended to refer to the manufacturer's instructions or a repair manual specific to your vehicle for accurate information. Additionally, it may be helpful to take pictures or label the hoses and lines before removing them to ensure proper reinstallation.

Where is vacum switch for 4x4 located

i had the same problem with my 1996 ram. I ended up having to change the vacuum actuator on the front axle .it is located on the axle to the right side of the differential housing . Mine actually had a pinhole rusted through. It is easier to replace the mounting bracket and the actuator at the same time .

Have a code for 97 dodge 1500 5.2 code is p0441

97 Dodges have a known issue of the EVAP canister failing. The carbon granules end up clogging the vacuum lines all the way up the purge valve. Inspect the vacuum lines at the purge valve, if carbon granules are seen, then the evap canister must be replaced. Then the vacuum lines will need to be blown clean/clear with compressed air. Also then, the purge valve must be replaced or at least disassembled and clean the valve seats under the diaphragm. The top of the valve can be removed to do this. The Evap canister on these model years is mounted horizontally on the frame rail, driver's side rear of the driver's seated position. I have first hand experience with this failure with a 97 Dodge Ram 4x4 5.9L.

94 Dodge Ram front Axle not locking for 4X4

there is no pressure /vacuum required to lock the axle
the action is the actuator moves a dog clutch that positively engages the gears
so is the problem else where
maybe broken axle , wheel locks are not engaging

95 dodge 1500 4x4 wont engage but transfer case is go in gear?

There is a vacuum switch on top of the transfer case that gets stuck check that. It redirects vacuum to the vacuum actuator on the front axle when the transfer case is shifted into 4x4.
