Have the proportioning valve checked on it. This valve reduces braking power to the rear brakes under hard braking to keep the rear brakes from locking up due to less weight on rear wheels. When malfunctioning it can cause the rears to not apply at all.

This could be bad rotors or bad bearings. Check to see what a brake shop would charge you to get them done. Then go to an autoparts store and see what new rotors cost. They are easy to change and you can then decide. If you want to know if the rotors are WARPED, you use a dial indicator to check them.
sounds like a brake pad warning clip is making contact with the rotor applying brakes presses pad and quiets the noise. have pad wear checked by mechanic.
check for a loose wheel..take the wheel and shake it(while jacked up off the ground) rotate it and look behind it for any loose hardware bad bearings or anything you can see that makes noise or dont look right..repost with findings,, thnx
the only metal to metal noise that can be generated from the brake area is the retaining spring for the pads or the wheel bearing.jack up the wheel and try for play....
Front wheel drive cars have CV joints in the axles to permit the wheel to turn for steering. The CV joint is basically a universal joint on steroids. When they ware out it can cause this type of condition.
