Question about 2002 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

My 2002 MB C320 is making a clacking sound as soon as the engine is started. The sound goes away after about 2 minutes. What causes this and can I fix this myself?

I had the same problem on my 2002 MB C320. I turns out that there was a recall on the Catilac Converter. I took it to the closest dealer and they replaced it all for free.

Knocking noise dodge ram

Pull valve cover off and look for any bad lifters. Or could be piston rod. Sounds like sticky lifter. Not good.

you have a rev limiter on that car. DO NOT OVER REV. the engine. The clacking sound is more then likely your valve tap-its from being over heated. Replace your thermostat and make sure you change your coolant every 2 years. Sounds like your thermostat is stuck open. Replace your thermostat every year or 2.

it sounds like your catalitic converters could be cloged, but also exaust sytems do make like a tink tink tink sound cause well, heat causes metal and most things to exspand and when the cool down really fast the contract and will make a litle tink sound.

It sounds like you have a valve or rocker issue, I would run an engine cleaner through the engine. I suggest draining 1 quart of oil, pour in the cleaner and run engine for 5 min. Let engine cool and drain the oil. Pretty much another oil change. This will hopefully clean a sticking valve if this is the issue. But I also would check for anything hitting the pulley's or fans that may have came loose. I've seen this a lot. Good Luck. It may take 2 cleanings for the engine, so don't get disappointed.

Sounds like a lack of oil to the cylinder head.

At least $85 an hour....part takes about 20 minutes at the most to change....part being MB.....not sure....should not cost more $200.

Clacking on start up

This is valve lifter/follower noise, run a can of engine flush Have the pro's do this) through the engine, then change the oil, it might help, but as long as it goes away quickly it will not cause any harm, just annoying.

The whine sounds like the power steering or the alternator, as far as the idle issue goes try this clean the intake throttle body and idle speed control valve with carb spray, disconnect battery for 5 min. then reconnect and drive a few miles to reset idle strategy. The car will try to die when you spray the intake, hold the idle up to prevent that, use at least 1/2 the can of carb spray.

My 2002 Mercedes c200k 2 ltr. Drove today about 20 KM and engine stopped.Had to wait for 10min then started but stopped a few minutes later ,this continued until I made it home.
