1989 GMC Jimmy Serpentine belt diagram for an idiot, please!

My serpentine belt came off. I am perplexed as to how i should put it back on. Out of the several (wrong) ways i attempted, i get a very loud screeching type of sound as if something is just not right. Any help please?

First off if the belt came off on it's own than it should be replaced because it will do it again and at the worst time. As for the screeching sound if you look at the part of the belt that rides on the pulleys you will notice a shinny finish. This is not good for traction and the belt will sequel when under load from the alternator, AC compressor, etc. The pulleys and belt should be free of grease or dirt. As for installing it just take your time and run it over all the pulleys.

Sounds like you got something thats tied up, like an ideler polly, or the spring tennsioner polly, or maybe even the alt. or power steering pump. Did you follow the routing diagram on top of the fan shroud?
