Wipe everything clean and drive for a day to verify where the fluid is coming from. if it is coming from the pan then drain and remove the pan and replace the gasket. if not the replace the offending part or gasket.

SOURCE: 1997 ford f140 2wd 4.6 automatic transmission is leaking, have replaced pan, gasket and rear seal what else will cause it to leak? leaking out rear of pan, you pour fluid in and it runs out without ev

On the front of your truck where your radiator is there is a transmission cooler, there are lines running from your transmission to that cooler they could be leaking, the transmission cooler is behind the grill on the front of your truck infront of your radiator, and as far as a stop leak, myself it is alot cheaper than buying a transmission, I would suggest that you use CD2 transmission stop leak, just a suggestion.

SOURCE: transmission leak

you most likely have overheated the trans. and it has blown the fluid either out of the vent on top or out the dipstick tube its self. most cases just a top off and you should be good... there is also a tsb on re-routing the vent tube so it doesnt clog as easy

How to tell which transmission is in my 1994 gmc 2500 van

On most vehicles the transmission information is inbeded the VIN # or vehicle identifation number . Unfortinatly on GMC and CHEVY its not . It is stamped on the passangers side of the transmission at the rear of the oil pan just above the pan gasket you will likely have to clean it off to read it it will be a 9 digit # with letters being in it . The most common transmission for an automatic is the 4L60-E If the forth digit is D thats what it is . As far as the leak goes you need to deturman where its leaking from the pan gasket or the rear oil seal or is it comeing from in front . Transmission do not normanly leak so make sure that its not engine oil you are seeing that is being blowen back witch is much more comon . Transmission fluid is red and smells differant then engine oil and is thinner . Check the oil level on the transmission see if its red and dose it smell burnt if so it will be more black witch is vary bad . Do you have any shifting problems .Also check your engine oil to compare the 2 oils . In a nut shell its your vehicle and your the olny one that actully look at it and looking saves money and blindly replaceing parts costs a lot and rearly fixes the problem

How much transmission fluid does the Chevy Express Van hold? We don't have an owner's manual

Hi, you can download a manual here, but it does not specify the transmission capacity:
http://www.extendedgmwarranty.com/owners-manual/chevrolet/2006-Chevrolet-Express.pdfHere is the info you need:
4L60-E transmission Service change only - 5 quarts. Total refill - 11.2 quarts.

Total refill would include a tear-down of the transmission and empty the torque converter. If you are just dropping the pan and changing the filter, 5 quarts should do it.

How to change transmission fluid on 2005 Chevy Express

Purchase trans fluid & filter kit from parts store. With vehicle parked and wheels chocked, undo trans pan slowly loosening bolts allowing one corner to allow fluid to drain (into a catch container of course). Pull pan once drained, remove old gasket, undo screws holding filter in place, replace with new filter, attach gasket to pan, retighten pan, refill.

Notice on driveway tranmission fluid leaking check t f top off also first gear hard shift took to DOBBS HAD CHECK OUT WAS TOLD tranmission seal on back side was leaking bad also oil pan gasket leaking...

u get a second look your self by looking at the transmission u dont have to take anything apart to find the leak the oil pan is easy so check that one first if u see any fluid on or around the pan then the seal is shot that dont mean the tranny will burn up, just keep an eye on the fluid level second the rear transmission seal is located at the back of the tranny where the rear drive shaft slips into the transmission if you notice fluid around there and on the drive shaft thats leaking also but like i said just because u have a few minor leaks dont mean the tranny will blow up just as long as you keep an eye on the fluid level. do your home work and find a good transmission shop that will gaureentee the there work at a decent price.
