Transmission slipping when warm or hot? - 1983 Nissan Pulsar

  • Anonymous May 08, 2009

Thankyou for you support. Transmission fluid is full. Slipping out when at low speed. If I remove cup on top of transmission and lubricate with fluid, gears are enabled again? Im thinking it may be fluid not getting cooled and require plan of attack to checking transmission hoses into radiator or cooling system?

Well it could be that the gear oil is low or the gearbox's gear teeth have worn out causing the gears to slip from their slot at higher speeds. Also check the clutch plates...............sodeep

2002 chrysler concorde 3.5 transmission slips when cold

Plz have fluid and filter changed in transmission. Sounds like filter is clogged and starving transmission of fluid until it warms up and thins out the fluid..Hope this helps.

Transmission is leaking but still shifting?

any product that says stop leak or stop slip is a patch (if it works at all)
Sadly, you will have to have her rebuilt.
you should have a 4L60E transmission in there (v-6)
If you plan to get a salvage trans, make sure you get the right one as they changed over from OBD1 to OBD2 that year.
The Blazers ran both series (1&2) and you must put the right one back in.

Transmission slips after engine warms up

It isn't when the engine gets hot, it is when the transmission fluid gets hot that the slipping starts, due to wear of the clutches and gears inside the transmission.
First, check the fluid level to make sure it is full. If it is low, bring fluid level to full and see if that helps.
About all the owner can do with slipping automatics is trying a transmission fluid and filter change to see if transmission revives and stops slipping. The bottom pan is removed, fluid (about 6-8 quarts) is drained, and a new filter is installed before the pan is replaced with a new gasket, sealed up, and fresh fluid added. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes the transmission is worn too bad to help, and you are left with looking for a replacement transmission.
Check the fluid level first. Good luck.

On a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, the transmission slips when warmed up but does not slip when it is cold. Any suggestions or solutions?

when cold, fluid is thicker. When hot fluid is thinner. The thicker, the more pressure if can withstand. Try gettings some Lucas transmission fix. if that doesent work, prepare for a transmission rebuild.

2003 envoy only runs 10mph when cold when warm runs fine

CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL. SOUND LIKE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING. BEST THING TO DO IF NOT.TO CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER.IF TRANSMISSION FILTER STOPPED UP TRANSMISSION CAN PUMP ENOUGH THROUGH DIRTY FILTER TO OPERATE WHEN FLUID GETS HOT BECOMES THINNER THEN IT WILL FLOW THROUGH FILTER BEFORE TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT RIGHT.

2004 ram3500 transmission slippage when warm

Hi, transmission slipping normally does not occur when the transmission is warm, as warm temperatures favor proper working of the automatic transmission systems. Nonetheless, if problems such as, broken transmission bands, gears or torque conversion already exist, then the transmission might slip even in warm temperatures. Another situation may arise, if the fluid suffers from contraction in cold weather and gradually the weather warms up sufficiently, to expand the internal parts and fluids. Then due to cold weather, a small transmission problem might occur. However, the problem may be too small to affect the vehicle. However, warm weather cannot be directly linked to transmission slipping.

My transmission shifts really good but when im in overdrive driving a steady 60 its slips just a little and slips back, continues till its hot and quits no more slipping

Torque converter lock up clutch is slipping, not good, Its not that it quits slipping when warm, it quits WORKING when warm and is not even trying to lock up any more. Need to have this repaired right away or severe damage will result. Depending on what year it is depends on what is needed for repair. Up until like 2000 it requires the valve be modified and torque converter replaced, after that its seals and torque converter. Any competent trans shop should be able to repair easily.

Car slips out of gear after the engine warms up

Ok this is an internal transmission problem, the 1st thing to do is check the fluid level in the trans, do this only on a HOT transmission otherwise you will overfill the trans and damage it more, if the fluid is full and clean then the trans will need to be torn down, but this does sound like a low fluid level problem.
