1988 dodge mini ram stalls

3 possibilites , dirty throttle body, idle air control motor or the EGR valve , either one will cause that problem

It sounds like your alternator is dieing out, or you have dropped a belt (should overheat though) With the vehicle running, remove the posative cable from the top of your battery and see if the vehicle stalls. If it does it's a good sign your alternator is no good.

idle control valve its about 50.00 to 75.00 I had same problem

I have a 1988 dodge ram charger with a 318 motor with throttle body. It runs really good when I start it up and drive it for about a half of an hour.
But after that when I step on the throttle a little bit, it hesitates. If I let off a little bit, it will go or if I really step on it, it will go also, but if I just hold it there, it really hesitates If I stop, the idle jumps up and down so much it causes itself to stall. It seems to only do this at low RPM's. If the RPM's are higher it's fine

I'd concentrate on idle air control valve. IAC valve. They control engine idle speed.

fasteners inside remove pull out assembly and carefully remove taillight and reinstall

Varnish and corrosion are the likely culprits. Fresh gas, some Heet in the tank, remove the air cleaner and spray the throttle body with carb cleaner for the cheap fix. There may be more and then it's time to take it to your local shop because what's next will require more than your old Swiss Army knife.

Remove IAC (idle speed control) motor, clean with throttlebody spray cleaner & the port (hole)it came out of. Re-install & try it. If it cures it for a while & does it again, replace the IAC motor.

Grab a can of throttlebody spray cleaner, and remove I.A.C. motor (idle air control) spray it clean especially pintle (pointed end) and port (hole) in came out of. re-install & try, if better for a while then starts to do it again, replace it.

Check your fuel pressure, and EGR valve and sensor. Doesnt sound like a spark problem since it starts right back up. You can go to Kragen and check and get a fuel pressure test kit.
