Asr light does not go on

if your ASR light is on, then either you are experiencing wheel-spin (even a small amount will cause it to flash), or you might have pressed the ASR button to turn it off (it will be on constantly).

When on and slipping; engine revs are limited by computer to maintain control. Until it resets. This feature may be disabled by pressing ASR or "anti skid" button... not recommended unless prepared for wheel slippage.

Sounds like it is doing its job? The rev up shutting down will not hurt your motor... It's the trade off for uncontrolled slipping being controlled by computer..

Anti Slip Regulator (ASR button) stops power to the wheels when they spin (on slippery surfaces ),the ASR is designed to be turned off only when you require the wheels to spin at low speed,EG: when you are on snow or ice,as the ASR will stop the power to the wheels if they start spinning,you would never get anywhere. over 20 M P H is not active and serves no function.......hope this helps......cheers.

First of all replace bad wheel bearing !!! This bad wheel bearing causes ASR light ON.

After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ESP ECU, in other words reset the ESP system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.

The light should come on for a few seconds as a test. If it then goes off this is normal. If however it stays on then the ASR (Acceleration Slip Regulation) has a problem. This is a very complex system that uses the anti-lock brake, cruise control, idles speed control, to prevent wheel slip. It can even apply the rear brakes individually and control the throttle. This system has no self diagnosis, and therefore is very difficult to repair for someone not familiar with this system. I suggest you take this car to a mechanic or a Mercedes dealer who has experience with this system.

hello,good day,it could be one of your wheel is spinning,resulting to send signal to your module,sometimes is normal.maybe your battery voltage drop a bit,or your speed sensor get some dirt,better to send your car to a dealer to scan,where the problem or trigger the asr light on,ty

MB has ASR,  VW now has ESP.  You posted in Jetta TDI, but say you have a SL600.   Both are slip/traction control programs and both can be manually overridden by dashboard button.  When the ASR or ESP is locked out, the light will be on all the time, maybe you can just push the button?   When driving, if this light flashes on, then ASR/ESP is trying to help get the wheel that is spinning not to.  

If the light came on after replacing parts, or a repair job,  something may be wrong with the parts (non OEM), the service or a sensor may have been damaged.  

Check with dealer for a recall for your vehicle on brake switch ... vw had a recall on these around 2002-2005.
