Runs fine first 20 minutes then starts sputtering and will hardly pull itself in gear about 5 mph and will die if you give it gas, after setting a few days will run ok again for a about 20 minutes
You need to check fuel pressure with a pressure gauge to see if its within specs.it should be around 35psi and no lower then about 32psi.your problem sounds like a fuel pressure problem and the pump should be changed as well as the filter, but check to make sure the fuel filter is not plugged as this can also cause a pressure problem.
SOURCE: 1998 Dodge Ram Dies at times when I let off the gas and stop
I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9 liter in it, i couldnt keep it running when i stopped at stop signs, the two things i tried, was taking off the air cleaner and sprayed carb cleaner into the intake manifold with the engine running, using the carb cleaner and the throttle linkage to keep it running, before i did this i noticed the throttle valves were dirty, so I inspected the air filter housing and saw it was cracked in multiple places. The second thing i did was reset the computer using a scanner then took my truck out on the highway and drove at least 50 MPH for at least a mile which re-learned the computer. I hope this helps you, it sure worked for me.

sounds like a vaccum problem check pcv valve and hose and replace if needed
SOURCE: Fuel pressure intermittently drops causing sputter and die.
check for 12v constant at your fuel pump if you are not getting that replace your relay.
if you are getting 12 volts at your fuel pump the fuel pump is possible to run tuel it gets warm then shut down to a lower rpm I would then replace the fuel pump
