Turn on ignition and get nothing but clicks

When I try to start my explorer, I get nothing but clicking sound, battery is fully charged and fuses have been checked. Could it be the theft system? And how do I over ride it??? Thanks

Check all connections and they are fine, the clicking sound is one single click each time I turn the key, sounds like it is coming from the area of the fuse box thats under the hood.

THIS Clicking is with a fully charged battery a definate sympton of a BAD connection................where is the bad connection.????? I would recomend you clean (A GOOD CLEANING) and reconnection of your battery cables....9 out of 10 times this will FIX your problem..!!!! If that dosen't work you have a STARTER problem this can also be a connection problem ...tighten hhe nut that holds the big cable to the starter.... you may also try(I have done this many times with success) banging the starter a few times with a hammer ...AFTER you have done all the connection cleaning....and it still wont start ,,,you have a starter problem....even if it starts after you do the hammer tap...it means you have a starter problem (CLEAN CONNECTIONS VERY IMPORTANT) .....................................GOOD LUCK.....!!!!!

Sound like bad starter solenoid or bad starter.

Car doesnt want to start. all lights come on when in the on position however when I turn it to start nothing happens it dont even try to turn over it just clicks 2002 hyundai xg350

The starting system consists of:
  • starter motor
  • starter switch, part of the ignition switch
  • starter motor solenoid relay switch
  • starter solenoid
  • starter drive
When you turn your key to start your engine, it just clicks, right? If so, more than likely this is due to a bad battery. Even though your battery may appear to be fully charged, it may have a dead cell, or worse. If you get a jump, does the vehicle start? If so, replace your battery.

Possible sources of the problem if the engine does not crank or the relay clicks:
  1. Battery
  2. Starter motor
  3. Starter motor relay
  4. Ignition switch
  5. Damaged fuse
  6. Anti-theft system
  7. Circuitry

1999 Honda Accord, 5 speed

It could either be a BAD starter or a BAD ignition they both would have the same symptoms of a "CLICK" alone. I would most likely lean toward the ignition because the key is difficult to turn but its not all ways true that key is tight because the ignition is bad, although possible. It could just mean a bad ignition cylinder(just the key part why its tight) I want you to do a test for me. With clutch engaged turn key to start position and listen for click on starter in the hood, when trying to start. If you hear starter click then the ignition switch is good. (Before you do this make sure that battery is FULLY CHARGED).STARTER IS AT FAULT. IF no clicking is heard coming from starter check starter fuse and if its good YOU have a BAD ignition switch.
