Sounds like the connector in the dash cluster. There is a large connector that plugs into the back of the speedometer, etc. cluster. I have had similar problems with the connector contacts becoming corroded. To clean them, use a soft pencil eraser (white) and blow all the eraser shaving out before you reconnect. Also check to make sure you don't have any bend connectors. All of the gauges, etc., make contact thru this connector so I would check that out first. You will, of course, have to remove parts of the dash to remove the cluster. I trip to the library or a check on YouTube might help.

Lumina troubleshooting

Ignition switch. This will cause all those problems. Turn it off, the gauges go blank/dead. Leave the lights on and remove the key, what happens..

What would cause temperature gauge bouncing ?

Sounds like the sending unit has an intermittent short to ground. Unhook the the wire from the sending unit, and see if the needle stops jumping around. If it quits jumping around, replace the sending unit. If it still jumps around, you have a bare spot somewhere on the wire and it is hitting ground which will cause the needle to jump. Cut out the bad part of the wire and splice in a new section. That should fix it.

My oil pressure gauge is bouncing all around on my 2003 Chevy Avalanche. It bounces from the low end to the high end and everywhere in between. Any idea what might be causing this?

Sounds like the oil pressure sensor. Thatt is the easiest thing to change. If not its the gauge. Put voltage to the wires from the switch and see if the gauge stops jumping and stays pegged, if it does its the switch Good luck

ANYONE KNOW WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE IN MY 2001 CHRYLSER SEBRING TO BOUNCE FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND DING THE LOW FUEL LIGHT ON AND OFF? IT JUST KEEPS DOING IT WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING.

  1. Abraded insulation on the fuel gauge sender wire (intermittent short to ground).
  2. Bad fuel level sensor.
  3. Corroded or broken connector in the fuel gauge sender circuit.
