Key wont turn in ignition

did you try moving the steering whell back and forth while trying to turn the key...

I'm assuming you mean your key wont turn in the ignition. first off check to make sure the car is in park. then what you gotta do is put in the key and put a little pressure as if turning but dont turn too hard, then even though the steering wheel is locked you will have to try to move it a little, if you parked with your tires turned then you will want to try to turn the wheel in the same direction, (even locked you should be able to move it about a half inch) you will have to turn the wheel hard but it should move enough to allow the key to turn, you may have to jiggle the key a little in the ignition but it should eventually turn, just remember not to try turning the key too hard, the extra force wont make it go but can cause the key to break. this tends to happen when you turn the car off andthe steering wheel gets locked if the wheels are turned hard in either direction. also if multiple attempts at this still dont work, try taking the key out and turning it over and trying again. Even though both sides of the key are identicle, because of wear on the key and the ignition, sometimes when the wheel locks the ignition, it will only turn if the key is put in a certain way. On mine you have to push the brake to release the steering sounds like it is jammed turn key to on position then put in gear and back to park if it is automatic and try moving steering whell at same time to get it unjammed this is a pretty common thing with the focus

Try moveing the steering whell hard both ways while turning the key and pulling at the same time. some times the locking steering wheel puts the ignition switch in a jam.

The tumblers in the ignition lock may be seized, try cleaning it out first with a small spray of WD40 and try the spare ignition keys. The keys it self may be too worn down for the tumblers in the lock and if you have lots of other keys on your key chains, this will promote the lock to wear out quicker. this could be the ignition clyinder but try these tips first wiggle the shifter alittle bit and try it. if this works just keep doing it. and if it dont work try to move the steering whell side to side wile trying to turn the key

HAVE IT CHANGED OUT

Is the steering wheel locked hard over to one side? On some vehicles it is just about impossible to turn the key with the wheel locked hard over. If it is, take some pressure off the steering whell lock by turning the wheel in the locked direction and try to turn the key.

try and turn your steering wheel a little bit left or right and and the same time try and turn the key when it turns toward the dash then try and turn the key back. try and repeat this several times if neccessary. this should work. please rate this solution. thanks

try tunring the key and the whell at the same time it should release the lock.
