Terrible gas mileage

Terible gas mileage

  • emankin Dec 04, 2013

Hi Brian Marston, I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?

What is the mileage now and what was it before? Have you checked it in similar driving conditions / similar acceleration / similar speeds? Does it drive more or less the same or is it losing power, running roughly... has anything else changed? is it showing any errors / check engine is on or off?

Bad gas mileage

Are you carrying anything on the roof? Have you checked for fuel leaks? If it's not running smoothly it could be that the ignition or carbuartor/injection system needs tuning.

O/d blinking how will that effect my transmission

First, you won't have overdrive, bad gas mileage. Second, it could go to limp mode. This is only second gear, terrible gas mileage. Third, you will trash the transmission driving it like this. Thousands of dollars to fix. Depending on the car.

Getting terrible gas mileage no one can find leak

I believe it is something they are putting in the gas. I have 2 cars that are getting worse mileage now than in the summer. 1 is a Prius the other is a Pontiac Vibe. The Prius used to go 450 miles on a full tank now i'm lucky if i get 300. I also asked a co worker and he said the same thing, less mileage. I wouldn't get nuts trying to find something mechanically wrong with your car.

1989 Jeep Cherokee all of a sudden is getting terrible gas mileage! Like FIVE miles to the gallon! The exhaust pipe is broken. could that be the cause?

if you drive with holes in the system...you lose power and put strain on the vehicle to perform better and it gets loud and your gas mileage will get worse and worse...so fix it or have someone do it. it's 15mpg normally

Gas mileage is terrible, check engine light on,put on computer by friend said o2 sensor -i wasnt sure my friend new what he was doing so took to auto zone now they say the computer wont read

auto zone reader will sometimes not read codes. take it to your local garage and ask them to plug into it with an updated reader. i dont charge to read a code and i would hope they dont either. the o2 sensor could cause bad gas mileage. whens the last tune up done? check air filter. plugs? also check air in tires. low tires can cost fuel mileage as well. hope this helps

Does the fuel filter affect gas mileage

there are lots of things that can affect gas mileage. if the spark plugs and wires are worn out, the air filter being dirty, dirty fuel filter, proper inflation of the tires, O2 sensors that are contaminated and performing poorly. the first thing to do would be that the engine is in good working order, as in no check engine light, no misfire, etc. a poorly running engine will put out terrible gas mileage. then you can start with the things i listed.
