2004 silverado front right wheel grinding.

The front right wheel on my 2004 silverado is grinding and poping on slow left turn. A significant amount of grease has accumulated on the inside of the wheel. Ball park cost? Should the car be towed to the mechaninc?

Sounds to me like you have a bad front hub. The good news is that the wheel speed sensors are part of the wheel hubs. The tricky part can be to figure out which side is bad. If the noise is worse when turning right, it is most likely the left side that is bad. You could try jacking up each corner and shaking the wheels to see if there is any play.

My 2004 Silverado is displaying a similar issue - but it grinds loudly on either a sharp left or right turn at slow speed - it feels like it is winding itself up terribly then releasing that energy in burst as it skips & hops along. If you shut the truck off in this position, then try to restart it, it will lurch forward a good foot as soon as you turn the key. I have no idea what the problem is

Vibration/Humming/Grinding noises when stopping or turning left.

when turning left vehicle distributes weight to right front wheel bearing causing load. since u describe a noise in right front while driving straight i would suspect failed right front wheel bearing. see if your noise changes/goes away while turning right that should tell u 4 sure

I am not sure if the wheel bearing on the front end is broke. it makes a loud poping noise when turning and the wheel is towed in

Loud popping/grinding most noticeably heard when turning is normally a sign of a bad CV joint. Look under the van where the axle half-shafts come out of the transaxle and connect to the backside of the wheel assembly. Are the rubber boots on the axles torn or missing?
If you hear the popping only in left turns, your right CV joint is bad, If you hear the popping only in right turns, your left CV joint is bad.
