I have a 1998 Pontiac bonneville se with 218k miles on it. Tachometer works fine. Speedometer works fine. Odometer works fine. Gas gauge, oil pressure, battery, and temp gauges are all fine. Trip meter...

If I had a 1998 car with 218K miles on it and an unimportant thing like the trip meter didn't work I would put a piece of black tape over it and use a GPS as my trip meter.

What's the problem when your odometer reading

are you saying that the odometer does not roll over the miles and that the speed of water does register the current speed?
Usually if the odometer is not working it is a problem inside the speedometer unit in the dash.If neither is working then you may have a broken connection to the unit on the transmission that sends electrical information to the speedometer.I hope this helpsregards

My odometer is registering extra miles

Check/Replace the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).

VSS generate a pulse count to the vehicle computer. If this sensor send out extra count the speedometer will read higher also.

Use GoogleMap to plan a short trip. Reset the speedometer and see what's the mileage count.

2001 grand caravan sport speedometer and tachometer not working

My van did the same thing. Actually the gauge had spun all the way around to the back side of the little peg that the needle rest on. To fix it I took the face of the dach board apart with a screw driver and rotated the needle by hand back to zero and its worked fine ever since..

No Odometer read out

The odometer is driven off the speedo by and internal gear, they do not service the parts, so a new/rebuilt speedo is required to fix the problem

95 Ford Explorer Odometer

Check the speed sensor in the transmission.
Being a 95 it might still be cable driven. Disconnect the cable from the transmission and hook a drill to it. Spin it and see if it registers. If it does, the gear going into the tranny is broken, if it doesn't the cable is probably broken.
