You can't. it has to be reset by a dealer or someone who has the software.

SOURCE: Mercedes Benz C180 Fault Message Brake Assist.Visit Workshop BAS

Hi there

BAS is the Brake Assist System and if there is a malfunction it would only come into play in an Emergency stop while applying full pressure. BAS applies full braking force because people tend to lighten up their pressure on the pedal in these situations. I would suggest that the best thing to do is go to a Workshop or Service Center and have it checked out. Please remember to put a good rating on my profile.

Kind regards
Dustin Ellse

SOURCE: Service Brake message

Hello, You probably have brake pads that are worn down to the sensors. You will need to take it to whomever does your repairs. It could be either the front or rear pads or both.

If you find this info to be correct, please enter a (fixya) rating

Where to find the traction control switch on a 2001 chevy cavalier

Doesn't have one ! The electronic brake control module turns it on an off when there is a problem ! Your light on ? DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored .
Traction Off
The IPC illuminates the traction off indicator when the following occurs:
• The electronic brake control module (EBCM) inhibits the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. The traction control system is disabled when the following occurs:
- For Chevrolet only, the shift lever is in FIRST (1) or SECOND (2) gear. The EBCM receives a class 2 message from the powertrain control module (PCM) indicating the gear position.
- For Pontiac and Oldsmobile only, the body control module (BCM) detects that the traction control switch is pressed (signal circuit is low). The EBCM receives a class 2 message from the BCM indicating the switch status.
- The BCM detects that the park brake is engaged (signal circuit is low) and that the engine is on. The EBCM receives a class 2 message from the BCM indicating the park brake status.
- The PCM detects certain malfunctions and is unable to perform torque reduction requests from the EBCM. The EBCM receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating that traction control cannot be performed.
• The EBCM detects a malfunction in the traction control system. The IPC receives class 2 messages from the EBCM requesting illumination of both the service vehicle soon and traction off indicators.
• The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.

My 2005 GMc envoy stopped when I stopped at stop sign the service brake system warning keeps coming on when push brake pedal. Gear shifter won't move out of park and it will not start.

Hello Kammy ,you have electronic problems ! Your best bet would have it towed to a qualified repair shop .
SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM
Refer to Brake Warning System Description and Operation !
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the brake warning indicator when one or more of the following occurs:
• The body control module (BCM) detects that the park brake is engaged. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the BCM requesting illumination.
• The electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a low brake fluid condition. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
• The EBCM detects an ABS malfunction which disables dynamic rear proportioning (DRP). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
• The IPC performs the bulb check at the start of each ignition cycle. The brake warning indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds before turning OFF.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM or with the EBCM.

When there are electronic problems the computers will not allow the vehicle to start , hooking up a factory or professional scan tool to see what the problem is is the first place to start .

Why is brake fluid warning light on but there is brake fluid

From Fiat LOW Brake Fluid / Parking Brake Either the exclamation mark symbol or the 'BRAKE' dashboard symbol may be used on various models of the Fiat 500. Light should illuminate until engine has started. If light remains on, it signifies the parking / hand brake is on, or that there is insufficient brake fluid in the reservoir. If light illuminates and the handbrake is not applied, braking may become defective. Seek assistance from a Fiat technician immediately.

Check to make sure your parking/hand brake is fully released, sometimes the spring that pushes back on the mechanism isn't strong enough, doesn't push back all the way, and the brake indication switch isn't engaged.
The other possibilities are that the float in the master brake cylinder is stuck (if it has one), or the level sensor has failed.

! with circle on dashboard

this means there is a problem in the brake system of the car and u should seek service from a dealer or qualified brake shop. here is a copied section of your owners manual about the light.

Brake system warning
Momentarily illuminates when the
ignition is turned to the RUN
position to ensure the circuit is
functional. Also illuminates if the
parking brake is engaged. If the
brake warning lamp does not illuminate at these times, or remains on
after releasing the parking brake, seek service immediately.
One of the following conditions may exist:
² low brake fluid level in the reservoir.
² Brake force distribution system failure. The ABS light will also
illuminate if this condition is present.

Hello... I would recommend checking for a frozen (stuck) rear brake, a mis-adjusted emergency brake light switch, a stuck or sticking parking brake cable or a mis-adjusted brake pedal rachet lock which is the locking mechanism that holds down the brake pedal. Remember it could be multiple problems.

Good Luck..

If someone took the time to look at the electrical schematic you will see several grounds in the circuit My first place I would go would be to check all the Grounds and Connections for the Brake Fluid level control, Brake Warning Indicator
  • The electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a closed brake pressure differential switch. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
  • The EBCM detects an ABS malfunction which disables dynamic rear proportioning (DRP) . The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
  • The IPC detects a closed power brake booster alarm switch and closed power brake booster fluid flow alarm switch. The IPC illuminates the brake warning indicator and sends a class 2 message to the radio requesting the brake warning alarm.
  • The IPC performs the bulb check at the start of each ignition cycle. The brake warning indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds before turning OFF.
  • The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM or with the EBCM.
Driver Information Indicators and Messages
The following indicators are used to inform the driver of several different factors.

Brake Warning Indicator
The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) illuminates the brake warning indicator when the following occurs.
  • The Body Control Module (BCM) detects that the park brake is engaged. The IPC receives a serial data message from the BCM requesting illumination. The brake warning indicator flashes at a rate of approximately twice per second when the park brake is engaged.
  • The EBCM detects a low brake fluid condition or base brake pressure differential and sends a serial data message to the IPC requesting illumination.
  • The IPC performs the bulb check.
  • The EBCM detects an ABS-disabling malfunction which also disables Dynamic Rear Proportioning (DRP) and sends a serial data message to the IPC requesting illumination.

Here is a description of how the system works But i would check my Grounds and connections

Anti lock brakes

depending on the system if it is 2 channel or 4 channel one of the sensors that are located on the backing plate located behind calipers is eithier faulty or dirty you can try brake cleaner these sensors use a small magnet pickup device to sense when the wheel "locks up"
