Temp light comes on car dies and wont start until cools

Driving down highway in my 89 olds cutlass ciera the temperature light came on and car died. I pull over and let it cool down for about 30 mins. I checked the radiator and the oil and both was full. Still would not start till next day. I drove it home and parked it. Next morning got in it and started fine and then just died. would not start. I get home from work and try and let it run for about 10 mins and no problems. Any ideas on what I need to check? Could it be the fuel pump?

What would be wrong with your 88 olds cutlas ciera if you're driving down the road and car dies and won't restart?

My car did this for a while until it would no longer move and I was told all sorts of things including cleaning (all the gunk near the MAF -hosing) which made it run for a month but did idle too high. So diagnose and get the codes from your car- the paperclip way (autozone cant cause its older than 1992).
Codes I pulled pertaining to this issue were 22 (Throttle Position Sensor- TPS Signal Voltage Low) , 23 (Air Intake Temperature- MAT Low Temp Indicated), and 34 (Mass Air Flow Sensor- MAF)
Easy to DIY with these 3 sensors

Car shuts down after driving for a while and then stopping

To everyone with this problem- it is the torque converter. It's either the sensors or the converter itself.

I need help with my 94 cutlass ciera V6!

I AM LEANING TOWARDS A POSSIBLE BAD CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR A POOR CONNECTION IN THE IGNITION CIRCUIT, PERHAPS A BAD IGNITION MODULE. CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE POWER GOING IN THE MODULE AND GOING OUT. ALSO CHECK FOR SPARK WHEN IT IS HOT. I HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR AN HONEST RATING. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO KEEP ME POSTED ON YOUR PROGRESS. BEST OF LUCK.

MY 92 CUTLASS AFTER 20 MINUTES STARTS SHAKING VIGOROUSLY THEN DIES AND WONT RESTART UNTIL IT COOLS DOWN 20 OR MORE MINUTES THEN STARTS RIGHT BACK UP

if a temp. light does not come on and the engine is not over heating I would look into the ignition components such as ignition module inside the distributor, sometimes when these components heat up they can cause this problem you described

Wont start

Take it to a shop for diagnostics. It could be alot of things, but is probably a faulty fuel pump.

Fuel pumps usually fail once the car gets to operating temperature and then they sieze up if they are faulty.

Although it could be alot of other things, faulty computer, to a clogged fuel filter.
