SOURCE: Reset the check engine light on 2005 Expedition

you have to take it to a shop to have it reset. if it tripped, it means something isn't working right, and that often leads to lower gas mileage if it isn't fixed, costing more money in the long term

SOURCE: check engine light reset for 2001 ford escape

On any car 1996 or newer after a repair is made the memory in the computer has to be cleared the light will not go away by itself. The proper way to clear this is with a scanner or code reader but if you dont have any other way unhooking the battery will force the computer to loose all its memory and start all over and the light will go away. If the light returns after a few days you still have a problim.

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins. This may reset the lights timer. If it comes back on within the next few days the take it to a large auto parts store and most will bring their computer out and hook it to your car and read the code the light will leave in your car computer, then they tell what the code says and try to sell you the part. You might car the auto parts store first and tell them what you have and ask if then can read your code for you.Its usually a free service.

Make sure you replaced the right one there are two sensor's for the coolant, one takes coolant temp and the other one runs the fans for the radiator. Both are located on drivers side of the block. 2 wire leads on each how ever both are different in sending readings to the computer. Both look just alike also. Just make sure you replaced the right one. Or replace both.

2005 Ford Taurus won't go over 20 mph or shift gears

That means you are in Limp Mode. The Engine check Light should be on?

The only way to solve strange issues like this is by finding a local auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer. The codes tell the fix.

These technicians are not normal mechanics.

What is the symptom with code1747 on a 2000 ford taurus?

1747 means the Transmission solenoid possibly has a short in the wiring or the solenoid is possibly bad, The symptoms are generally the trans wants to go into limp mode, I'm not sure on the Taurus but I believe it basically shifts in only 2nd and 3rd gear no 1st and no overdrive making the owner think his transmission is bad. But really the limp mode is so you can get the car to a dealer or a shop for repair.

We changed the battery on 2009 ford fusion. The car starts, idles but does not accelerate. It is possibley in "limp mode"? do you have any answers on how to reset?

I have a 2008 Ford Fusion SE (2.3L 4-cyl), and had the same problem after replacing the battery... It seemed like the car just wouldn't learn what it needed to. I found the fix to make it operable again (check engine light has yet to clear; I'll be checking on that tomorrow). Turn off accessories (lights, A/C, etc.). Turn the ignition to ON (but NOT starting the car), push the gas pedal to the floor slowly, then then let it up quickly. Turn the ignition OFF. Repeat this two more times. Now the car should start; let it idle for a minute or so, then check for throttle response (this fixed it for me). I know the OP may not need this, but hopefully someone will find this useful.

Car stays in 2nd gear all of the time. (Limp mode) Fix Engine light stays on, D green light blinks constantly for automatic transmission Honda Accord 2005

Ah, I see. You want to outsmart the computer? Right logic, wrong computer. I think the problem is not in the transmission, but it is the engine computer that has communicated with the transmission computer and put the car in limp-in mode. The fix engine light is sent from the engine computer, and this is the main computer in the car, the main drive train computer, if you will.
The short answer is yes it will reset, by just unhooking the battery. Won't do any harm. Start it up about an hour later, and be sure and let it warm up to normal operating temperature (closed loop) before you take it out for a test drive. Otherwise you may be miles from home in 2nd gear limp-in mode again.
The real fix is to talk to your car...like communicate with the computer and get those trouble codes read...talk to it nice, not the abrupt tone of the glaring idiot light, and maybe it will respond in a kinder, gentler easy to fix diagnostic code!!!!
Good luck.

2002 Impala: transmission limp mode...

Most transmissions have a limp mode, or limp-home mode.
If the driveline computer thinks there is something wrong, it can lock the transmission into one gear, such as 2nd gear. Usually reverse will also be available. The Impala automatic has 4 speeds. 2nd speed or gear will get you home, but the engine rpms can get a little high. I wouldn't get on the expressway will in limp mode.
Before taking to the shop, you might want to try and reset limp mode by turning the car off for a couple minutes, or you may have to disconnect and reconnect the battery.

15 amp fuse for tail lights inst. pannel and o/drive blows

If it has reverse and second only it is in limp mode, something has gone wrong to cause it to do this. Sometimes you can disconnect battery and it will reset, but as soon as the problems happens again it will go back into that mode. Bad internal solenoid on transmission, slipping clutches, no power to transmission computer ie blown fuse, fauty tansmission computer. Try having some one pull the codes, if they can't it is a blown fuse or bad transmission computer. Hope this helps

2002 Dodge Intrepid transmission not shifting

Flush out your transmission with the correct type fluid, Mopar ATF+4, and correct filter. Disconnect Negative cable, to reset computer, for at least 24 hours. Check grounding straps for PCM, ensure they are tight and clean.
This method worked on my 2003 Intrepid SE, 3.5L, Police Pkg car.
Good Luck!!
