1998 Dodge 1500 Extended cab 4wd 5.9 Magnum motor Approx 115k miles. Mostly highway driving Check engine light, was coming on and then clearing by itself after a week or so. Started a few months ago. Was one most of last week, cleared on it own Saturday night, then came back on Sunday after a few trips. I can clear by disconnecting battery, generally returns after a few days of driving. Last code pulled a few weeks ago was 301 ? Cylinder 1 misfire ? Prior to replacing stuff mentioned below. I have not seen the check engine light flash. In an effort to resolve I replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor and PCV a few weeks ago, no noticeable issues on old plugs, Occasional feel of a miss or stumble, generally when stopped, in gear and brake on. Tried pulling a few different plug wires, one at a time to see if there was noticeable change in idle. I was not able to notice a significant difference. Past history Catalytic convertor was replaced with after market (Midas) within the past few years ? old one was clogged and truck was not drivable at that time. O2 sensor (front, I think was also replaced at that time since the original was stripped)

Sounds more like an EGR issue to me.

There may be a software update for the powertrain control module for mis-fire monitor. check with your local dealer. but if thats not the case, these engines are known at least in my experience of having the heads crack between the valves and cause mild mis-fires. try compression testing all the cylinders and performing a leakdown test on them as well.

How do you check the timing on a 1998 ram 1500

Depending on what size engine you have you will need to follow the instructions for that size and model engine. Chances are mostly that if it is running - the timing is ok.

Nothing happens when i shift my 1999 1500 quad cab into 4wheel drive the 4x4 light dose not come on

Step 1 would be to see if the vacuum supply switches from one hose to the other on the front axle disconnect. It's a vacuum servo on the front axle, and has 2 hoses going into it. BE CAREFUL as you will have it running and be right under the engine and fan. If it sucks through one hose in 2WD and the other in 4WD, the transfer case switch is working properly, and the servo is suspect. Also, did you test drive in a parking lot to see if it actually in 4WD and just not turning the light on, or is it definitely not going into 4WD?

I blew the engine in my 05 magnum w/ 5.7 hemi new engine is slugg

there is a break in period, but there is no reason for you engine to be sluggish, if that would be the reason all new cars would run sluggish. if you have arcing that mean that your not running on all cylinders your dealer should heck your car
