Sluggish ignition start

The first start of the day and sometimes later X3 acts like it will not start but then does start. Battery and alternator are fine. Problem worse in very cold weather.

I think your mistaken. Your battery will lose cranking power as the temp drops. Warm battery may work just fine, untill it gets below freezing temps then the cranking amps are so low its sluggish. Buy a high cranking amp battery and you will be good as gold mate!

A very common fault with them in cold weather is the lift pump, an in-line torpeedo like pump situation half walf between fuel tank and engine under the car.

sounds like a fuel pump or filter problem. replace filter first its cheaper than a fuel pump.my fuel filter on my 01 530 was under the driver side half way back along the bottom rail of the car.i had to remove the aero plastic with a plug puller that gave me acess to it.try and replace that first. if it doesn work its prob.fuel pump.

If you can catch it failing again, test for power on the small wire going to the starter solenoid while someone tries to crank it. If you have no power, check for power at starter relay and trace backwards. If you have power, you have a bad starter. They can have intermittent failures. Hopefully your starter is easy to access, some 3 series and 5 series have the starter mounted under the intake manifold and it is necessary to removed the maifold to replace or test the starter. Good luck, hope this helps.

2003 tribute is locking out ignition...Rear hatch stopped engaging two weeks ago but ignition problems only now have begun...disconnected battery to reset..

As far as shifting goes it could be the key if you have a spare key try it. I have had some odd thing occur due to battery or alternator problems. I had a 2006 which the steering assist motor, A/C and interior lights quit working. The dealer wanted 800 dollars to fix but I couldn't pay so I had to wait. Two days later the battery was dead in my car. I put a new battery in it and all the problems went away. I had a 94 which acted up when you came to a stop and sometimes the speed ohmmeter would read more than 20 mph while stopped at a red light. A guy at a dealership told me to change the alternator, I did and the problems were solved. I have had the transmission quit shifting due to a electrical sensor. Were I live auto part stores will check your battery voltage which is usually around 13 V. Then you crank the car and they can tell you what your alternator is putting out. That is what I would do first.

Sluggish & electrical problems after new alternator & battery put in

Sounds like the new alternator is not charging the battery. Once the battery drops below a certain level the car can't keep its components (on board computer) running. The ignition is now running off the battery which is fading. Soon the car won't be running at all.

As already suggested, check belt and new alternator.

Battery light came on while driving. 2 hours later I could not start the car.

Sounds like a bad alternator. Boost vehicle and when running disconnect positive on battery, if shuts down probably alternator no good, replace.

Sometimes wont start the next day it will and it has a new battery

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

I was having the same issue with my 95 GMC. I replaced the battery and alternator. It would start fine at times, at other times it would be sluggish. I finally took the starter off and had it checked. Turns out the starter was bad. When it would get hot, it would act as though the battery was dead. Replaced the starter and it has not acted up again. Have the starter checked. Replace if bad.

No not the garage but if difficulty in cranking then i would say a battery problem ,as for sluggish when you did get it started then this could be the power being drained by the alternator to charge the battery ,Modern vehicles can have some monster alternators fitted of up to anything to 120 amps which is a lot of power to drain from the engine

My car was a bit sluggish to start then 1 day wouldn't start nothing there at all tried it tem min later and it started and has been fine til the other day went sluggish to start drove to a few places then...

check/clean battery terminals, if ok check starter wires for voltage(while turning key to start) and tightening or corrosion. If all check out ok replace the starter. If you have no voltage at the starter check your relays and ignition switch. Hopefully this helps

Chevolet Cavalier : Starter or Ignition

did you connect it tight. So there would be no current leak ? Make sure that all the wires are connected good and tight using a good wire clamp.if the starter runs sluggish, it may be your starter going bad. But I think it is still a leak on the connection.
