Replacing a rear view mirror

The driver's side rear view mirror (power) is cracked and I received a replacement mirror (glass only) and two adhesive strips. How do I get the old glass out to put the new one in, or do am I supposed to use the adhesive to put the new mirror (glass) over the existing one? Or, do I have to replace the entire unit?

You will need to remove the broken glass by prying with a screwdriver/small putty knife. You can apply heat (being careful not to melt or distort the backing plate) if there are area which just won't pry up. Installation of the new glass will depend upon the style of backing plate you may have. The following website highlights them with links to the proper technique on the right-hand side of the page: http://www.burcoinc.com/products/redi_cuts/installation/

You have to CAREFULLY ( probably wise to wear safety goggles ) and with a flat blade screwdriver, pry out ALL the broken mirror glass wearing gloves. Now with the 2 adhesive strips, align mirror glass and adhere to base. Hope this helps

You don't say if it's just the glass mirror that's broke or is the housing cracked as well.
If it's just the glass mirror, it's held in place by double-faced adhesive tape. You can buy a replacement from a dealer or on-line. To get the old one lose, heat the glass with a hair dryer while pulling on the glass with a hooked tool.

I need to replace the mirror glass on a 1994 camry driver side p

Start with a good thick pair of leather gloves, a putty knife, and a tall trash can. Place the trash can below the mirror, tilt the mirror inward so you get a hold of the outer edge, and carefully pry the remaining pieces of mirror from the backing plate. Do not apply any pressure directly to the backing plate, or you may damage the gears on the electric motor. You should be able to pick up a new mirror and adhesive at your local auto parts store. Use masking tape and a couple of wood blocks to hold the glass in place while the adhesive sets (blocks against the glass, then wrap the whole thing in tape).
