The driver's side rear view mirror (power) is cracked and I received a replacement mirror (glass only) and two adhesive strips. How do I get the old glass out to put the new one in, or do am I supposed to use the adhesive to put the new mirror (glass) over the existing one? Or, do I have to replace the entire unit?
You will need to remove the broken glass by prying with a screwdriver/small putty knife. You can apply heat (being careful not to melt or distort the backing plate) if there are area which just won't pry up. Installation of the new glass will depend upon the style of backing plate you may have. The following website highlights them with links to the proper technique on the right-hand side of the page: http://www.burcoinc.com/products/redi_cuts/installation/
You have to CAREFULLY ( probably wise to wear safety goggles ) and with a flat blade screwdriver, pry out ALL the broken mirror glass wearing gloves. Now with the 2 adhesive strips, align mirror glass and adhere to base. Hope this helps
