Let my sister barrow my truck she calls about 2 miles down the road saying the truck is running real rough and wont go over 20mph. she finally limped it back to my house and it sounding like it was running on 2 cylinders, missing and sputtering and then it cut out. Now it cranks and sputters but cuts out. fuel pump is running relay is working right I'm thinking I need to check my fuel pressure but I don't have a gauge so I'll have to make a harbor freight run and should I check the pressure regulator as well?
Recommend starting simple. If you suspect fuel pressure, it might be easier to start with replacing the fuel filter first, and checking fuel pressure at the filter while your there. It will give you a better chance to determine if the problem is at the pump or closer to the intake. If for some reason you have to replace the fuel pump...very common in this model truck because fuel gauge problems, the easiest way to access the pump is to unbolt the truck bed, block it up wood (Significantly easier than dropping the tank. I tilted mine to the passenger side), then you will have easy access to the pump. CAUTION!!! The connectors on the pump are brittle and break easily, especially in a vehicle this old. It's very difficult to get replacements, so take your time to prevent breaking fuel connections.
