4wd works fine just no light where is the sensor or light switch

Erik,
There actually is a sensor for the fluid, so yes. You should check the fluid in the differential. You could try to do this yourself, or you could take it to a shop you trust. Yes, it's also possible that the fluid is low, and when you are stopping or slowing down the sensor isn't picking up the fluid, so then the light comes on to warn you that it's low in fluid. Hope this helps. Please rate my solution, thanks.

Look on the gearshift lever. You will have remove the cover to get to it.

switch is just above trans pan and below shift linkage requires a thin (crome 1" socket) to remove

You need to get under the suv, there is a linkage under there that has 2 grommets. They dry rot and then fall out. Once that has happened the 2 pins that hold it together give way and the link is broken. If all you need are those 4 parts its $12 at the dealer. If you also need the adjustable metal linkage that joins the shifter to the transfer case you will have to order that too, sometimes it falls off when one end gets loose. It will swing around and hit the drive shaft and get yanked off. If you need more detail let me know.
