Power steering pumps either work or don't, so the other part that does cause this issue and will be intermittent in nature is the steering rack, u have a leaky assist piston seal.

Where is the power steering pump 97 geo tracker

97 geo tracker is not equipped with power steering. they where made so light that they just have steering assist which doesn't require power steering fluid or anything else. you will notice that when vehicle is parked or at slow speeds steering wheel is hard to turn. this is perfectly normal its just not power steering.

2000 Mercury Cougar, Automatic, 2.5L, V6. Car started making a whining noise when turning the wheel so I start putting in Power Steering Fluid within a couple days it does the same thing. Now car is making...

You likely have a bad power steering pump or a hose that is leaking. Do not put any fluid other than power steering fluid in the power steering reservoir. if you do you will wreck the hoses and pump. Better not drive it till you get it repaired or you may ruin something else or have an accident.

97 honda accord hard steering. power steering pump and rack have been replaced but still have hard steering

My guess is that you have air in the system. Turn the steering wheel all the way left, and then all the way right several times. Check the fluid level before and after.

My 1997 pontiac Grand prix power sterring is gone and hard to turn i think it might be the pump or sterring whell fluid but cant find it help me please

You might want to check the power steering fluid. The resevoir is on the passenger side toward the passenger seat it is kind of hard to find. But i have a '97 Grand Prix and i noticed that whenever i would turn sharp while going pretty fast it would make a grinding noise and i could feel my steering wheel pulling me. But the thing is the power steering never whinned or anything. So i checked it and there was absolutely none in there. So check the fluids first.

Steering is hard to turn

If it is hard to turn in both directions check power steering pump fluid level. Also with both front wheels off the ground key on engine off, turn the tires manually at one of the front tires and turn with the steering wheel engine off. Check for binding (they will require effort to turn) you are looking for a change in effort.

Power steering doesn't work - 1990 Toyota Forerunner 3.0 engine

It sounds like your power steering pump has gone out. If your resevoir has fluid and there are no power steering lines with holes in them, that would be the next option to look at. When the pump goes out the fluid cannot move throughout the tube to help give you assitance in steering. Change this pump and your power steering will be back to normal. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for using FixYa!
