Need to take the vehicle and put it on a lift where the wheels dangle in midair.. unce raised look at the drive axles and see if the joints are messed up.. that sounds like the problem to me..one of the c v joints may be broken..

SOURCE: wont shift back from 4x4 low, to 2x2

I also have a 2002 Envoy. Shifting to and from 4wh and 4wa can be done on the fly but shifting to 4wL has to be done stoped and while in neutral. Try that. Otherwise I'm afraid its a new computer for you. Its located under the left rear seat and you need a loan for one.

SOURCE: Recently got remote starter installed (not by

GM has had more that their fair share of transfer case problems. I have also seen may problems caused by addition of aftermarket equipment - especially remote starters. There is a good chance that you have a damaged transfer case, but if an electrical problem was the root cause of the damage, you will only destroy a new transfer case if the electrical problem is not resolved. If the mechanic that you are going to does not have the proper equipment and/or information to diagnose your transfer case control circuits, you should consider getting a second opinion from the dealer before buying a new transfer case. I currently work in an aftermarket shop. There are several of the GM 4 wheel drive systems where the manufacturer has not released the information necessary for an aftermarket shop to properly diagnose and repair the system. Some mechanics are simply to proud to say "I can't" or "I don't know".

Did you change the coil and plug? If that didn't work, check the connector and pigtails for cly5.

When you switch to defrost or the air conditioner, the vehicle shuts down completely

Does it shut off, like the electrical system shuts off and the engine slowly stops (the same as when you turn off the ignition)? Or does it stop abruptly and with a noise, like a squeal or thunk? If it is the former, then it is a short (or bad ground) in your air conditioning system. If it is the latter, then, yes, it could be the compressor bearings are seized.

The service 4wd light came on in my 2002 envoy.

There are two motors under the vehicle. The front axle actuator moves ONLY during 2HI->A4WD and A4WD->2HI transitions. The transfer case encoder motor makes a lower pitched noise in every mode transition: 2HI->A4WD, A4WD->4HI, and 4HI->4LO, and the three transitions upwards.

If EITHER of the motors fails to do what the TCCM commands it to do, the switch light will flash and the Service 4WD light on the dash will come on.

If you're a DIY mechanic, you might look into them further, or just take it to a mechanic who knows our systems. The average mechanic is not going to know the theory of operation of the trailblazer/envoy 4x4 system, which is pretty unique in the industry

What's the difference between A4WD and 4WD Hi in the snow? Which should I use in the snow?

A4wd means it senses wheel slipping automatically and engages 4 wheel drive as needed, use that.

My 2002 GMC Envoy XL does not shift into 4 wheel drive. It is currently in 2H, when I turn the dial to 4H, the light does not flash or shift into 4H. This is the first time I tried shifting to 4H since...

Check to see if any of the other switch selections ( A4WD, 4LO) turn on a light, if not, the problem could be the switch itself or the TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module). If you get a flashing light condition for a switch selection, then the problem could be the actuator on the Transfer Case.

4wd hi is not working, the a4wd works. the 4hi sounds like it is kicking in but the back tires spin

it is normal if u get tire spin in 4wheel or in all[a4wd]-- even auto[4wd] uses the rear spin to engage the front differential
