1997 chevy makibu wont start tries to but wont start sometimes it will start other times it wont then it ill start n die in a few seconds whats wrong with it

My wife's 2006 Aveo was continually going into limp mode. She wold have to turn the car off, wait 30 seconds and restart the car to reset the car so it would properly drive again.

I checked codes and had 6 falt codes. Most relating to emissions and fuel peddle sensor and your usual oxygen sensor and a transmission powertrain control module . . .

I changed Tps and fuel pedal sensors and cleared codes.

Every day for weeks the car check engine light would come back on and the same codes would appear.

This is what I did . . . . .

I had a hunch a bad ground issue was causing the problem.

So I removed the battery and battery tray. I cleaned both battery posts.

Under the battery tray I found two major chasis ground wire positions that fastened to the car. I removed them and with a red scotchbright disc and a die grinder I cleaned up all the wire ends and where they fastened to the car.

I did the same where the major negative wire attached to the starter and three large ground wires also attached to the back of the engine.

After restoring all the major and minor ground wire attach points my wife's car worked like new.

Bad battery to chasis grounds was the problem!!!!!!
The car has never thrown a code since and the problem went away

It could be the ECU,but I am gonna put my money on the fuel pump and say its a fuel issue. Have you changed the fuel filter? the most common problem with GMC's is the air flow mass meter. Spray it with some air flow mass meter cleaner and see if that helps.

check for leaking injectors and excessive pressure in the manifold from faulty regulator.

check your timing, check that your ignition pick up coil is good. also check your fuel pressure. and check for any vacuum leaks. double check your coolant temp sensor to the ecm it tells the ecm what temp it is and the ecm adjusts the fuel amount accordingly.

I have 94 s 10..4.3 v6. it does the same thing have replaced fuel pump and filter,ignition module,cap rotor plugs wires,coil,ground strap...driving down the road jus dies like the key got shut off....for a while when troubleshooting through the parts you could get it to restart.....now when it dies it cranks really hard when trying to restart..ive checked the timeing its fine....if i wait a few min it will usually start...sometimes it will show a check engine light sometimes not......never know when it will happen sometimes jus down the the road from the house sometimes 100miles down the road......sometimes three times in a mile sometimes not for weeks at a time..Wtf...Im ready to shoot it like a lame horse....its a shame too its a sharp lil truck thats a two owner and never spent a night outside in its life...i knew the original owner ...i bought it with 90,000 on it it only has 148,000 now and still looks like new...

either crankshaft postion sensor camshaft postion sensor sometimes tho cars just have a crank sensor and it does the cam sensor job to

lossen your beather tube do not take off use a screwdriver to open it enough to spray a little bit of either.Then try to start right away if it tries to start your fuel pump in the tank is possible or fuel filter.If it ndoesn't even try pull a spark plug wire put a screw drive in it and hold it near a part connected to the motor have someone turn the key look for and arc no arc tune-up with coil pak if it has one if it doesn't remove the distributor cap without pulling any wires off have someone turn the key see if the rotor turns if not maybe timing chain or belt not sure which your car has try these things 1st

did you use carb cleaner or starter fluid. if you try starter fluid and it starts for a second and then dies you might have a fuel pressure issue. if not check for spark.

92 Thunderbird wont start in cold weather. Engine turns over, makes noise but wont power up.

same just happend 2 me,was told it was the neutral safety switch -but didnt start in neutral-took 2 shop 400 later it was the ignition switch runs great again hope i helped
