Lights Dim and Brighten

The headlights and dash lights (probably tail lights, but I don't see them) on my 2005 Trail Blazer dim and brighten as I'm driving. Tomorrow the dealer is replacing the alternator for the fourth time in less than two years, the third time in less than three months. You can track the dimming and brightening if you watch the battery gauge. It cycles up and down just a little above and below center. The first time I had to go in twice before they said it was the alternator, now I think they replace it only because they don't know what else to do. Once replaced the problem stops, but the amount of time between replacement is getting shorter. I bought the car new, so I didn't inherit someone elses problem.

The only thing attached to the battery are the components that came standard with the car. The battery died about six months ago (it was a three-year battery that lasted three years) and was replaced. It checks out fine and the cables and connections are all good.

94 f150 xlt. headlights and tail lights brighten and dim while driving. Interior lights do not brighten or dim. could it be a loose connection somewhere?

Take a extra earth wire from the negative of the battery to the body and from the body to the engine. The problem should then be solved. Or replace the relay in the fuse-box for the lights. The cover of the fuse-box will show you which relay is for the lights.

Dash lights come on with the headlights then shut off

Do you have a dimmer for interior lamps? Like a rheostat, a little wheel that you turn up or down to brighten or dim interior lamps. Usually the instrument cluster lamps brighten and dim the same way.
Can you brighten and dim the other interior lamps?

My 03 monte tail lights an dash lights wont work -- brake an blinkers work -- bulbs an fuses are all good cant figuer it out any help would be app. ty

I would start by checking the headlight switch on the dash. You can brighten and dim the lights on the dash with a switch. Usually when just the dash lights go out then it is this switch.

When I turn on the headlamps the dash lights go out. Guages all work, radio display disappears also. fuse is good and tried changing headlight switch

Get a test light, and ground the clip, put the tip of the test light on the dash light fuse.Turn the knob to dim,and brighten the dash lights, see if the test light reacts with the dimmer switch. If it does not, then there is a wire jumped to by pass the dash lights somewhere. If the test light dims, and brightens, then there is a wire of going to the dash,or bad connection where the harness clips into the dash.

You need a new headlight switch most likley. Try turning the knob to dim and brighten quickly and push in and out on the headlight between parking and headlights.

Dash lights come on when dome light goes out

The only possible location I can think these circuits cross is at the headlight switch. The dimmer rheostat or the wheel you turn to dim and brighten your dash lights also should turn on your dome light so I think maybe a new headlight switch assembly or rheostat should fix tour problem

Lights dim while driving

Have your charging system checked. I had a similar problem with a chrysler van - the lights would brighten and then dim periodically. it turned out to be the battery.
