Deactivate alarm My car alarm had gone off at the airport and when I returned from my trip I opened the car with my key. My fob has not worked in 3 years. Now the car alarm keeps going off and the car will not start.

well it needs service,
the VTA is complex.
read this chapter, first. or get car serviced.
my guess is there is a bad door switch. (common)
using the metal key part, is in the operators guide
this mode , (key metal ) disables the alarm system, a feature of it.
if you have a EVIC display in the dash cluster, it tells you which door s failing, lacking that, it takes a scan tool to learn that.
if the horn honks 3 times when open the door. that means
it tripped while your were gone, (door switches tripped)

I would look into getting a new key fob and having it programmed to the vehicle. If not tben use the key and lock unlock the door to deactivate the security

Call the dealer ,is the best answer with a immobilisor problem

it has gone into theft mode. you will need to have the system rest. it makes it so the parts are useless. when you take the battery off for any reason you need to have the key in the ignition on number 2 then off to 0. leave key in and you now have 30 seconds to take of the battery. just taking off the battery with out doing this can activate the systerm.

start engine it will turns off alarm system.go to dealership replace the remote battery let them reprogram remote.

You should be able to just unlock the door with the key, and even if the alarm is still going of try to start it the key should override the alarm.

Your alarm is activated and deactivated by the use of the FOB...

Think about it this way; If you have a house alarm, does it turn off by itself just because you opened the front door? No, of course not, you need to then enter the code to deactivate the house alarm.

Same thing with the FOB, it cancels the alarm.

Replace the battery in th key fob to allow you to deactivate the alarm system. Use a small thin edged screw driver to pop open the cover on the fob to replace the battery.

The fob and car have to go to the dealer to have it reprogramed.

If im not mistaken,your car should have an alarm reset/override.Below the steering column,on the dash should be a slot where you put your remote transmitter to deactivate the alarm.If that works,you then need to have your remote checked and coded by a vw dealer.Good luck.
