The gear shift is locked in park and doesn't release now for some reason. So every time I start up the car, I have to use the spare key and release the shift lock by inserting the spare key into the shift lock release over ride thing. Why? Why suddenly do I have to do this? I have 120,000 miles an otherwise no issues with the car.
Happened to me with my 2008 Civic LX. I couldn't get the shifter to come out of Park unless I depressed the interlock switch with a screw driver. By brake lights, horn and cruise control also stopped working. The #12 Stop/Horn fuse located under the hood was blown. I replaced the fuse and all was good.
Most likely you have a problem with the shift interlock solenoid located under the shifter. It gets its signal from the brake switch every time its pressed. If your brake lights come on when brake pedal is pressed, then you can assume the brake switch is o.k.
SOURCE: automatic door lock no longer working
I just brought my car in because the AC was working, but not blowing cold. The emergency brake light won't go off. And the automatic door locks won't work (the doors lock manually but not auto). We just got the call that the entire fuse box under the steering wheel needs to be replaced. 270 for the part, 300 for the labor. !?!?!?!? It all just happened over the last weekend! They said not to drive it anywhere because you never know and all the electric could go!!! Not sure what caused it, but it sounds like I'm not the only one...

If there is nothing jammed in the barrel, you will need to pull apart the lining of the interior of the door, disconnect the power motor for that switch, then see if it locks by key, sounds like the motor is seized, of out of allignment, easily fixed with a second hand or reco motor, or witha simple adjustment. Good luck, hope it helps.

Theres a transmission cooling sensor and somtimes the wire comes loose from other repairs being done around it. or its just out. its on the left side sitting on the tranny. THATS WHY your d4 light is blinking

Inside the center console, on the side of the shifter, there is a neutral safety switch. You can replace it, or remove it. If you remove it, you will always be able to shift the gear, even with the car off, so its something to think about. But it can be done.
