Oil pump pickup screen may be clogged (in oil pan) from lack of use causing sludge buildup.

how is this fixed is there an additive for oil

  • George Zafiris Dec 24, 2013

The right way is to remove the oil pan and unbolt the pickup screen off the oil pump. With the pan removed you'll know for sure if it is a sludge build up ,clogging the screen , or if something else is going on like a damaged oil pump or other internal engine issue. using a sludge solvent may just further worsen the situation.

Also, inspect the pan carefully, if you do find metal chunks in the pan , then you'll know something more serious is going on.

SOURCE: i recently got a oil and filter change now i hear knocking noise

If the oil has been changed, why are you putting more oil into the engine? Does the engine use/burn oil, or have an oil leak? If you have none of these problems, then you may be overfilling the engine which is just as bad as no oil.

SOURCE: Just changed head gasket on

did you leave something in the cylinder? it could be a chunk of carbon that came loose from the intake when you took it apart, and if this is the problem it will brake up and get blown out the exhaust. but i would guess a piece of the old gasket got left in a cylinder. you may have to rent a bore scope and take a look in the spark plug hole to see if you can find the problem, could also be that you have spun a rod bearing due to the water in the oil.

Engine is running fine. Oil level is good. Oil light comes on and off at random. Engine isn't knocking and runs great. Recently changed to GTX extended milage oil. Problem developed

The oil light comes on when the oil pressure sensor detects low oil pressure. The amount of oil has little to with it, although very low oil levels can cause loss of oil pressure. Since you aren't getting knocking, chances are the oil pressure sensor is defective. Replace it and monitor the situation closely. This could be a serious condition if allowed to escalated and it turns out to be an oil pressure issue.

Knocking sound from engine..

How many miles on engine? Was oil changed after it ran hot? Install a good mechanical oil pressure gauge to see what is really going on. Also might use length of hose put one end in ear and listen with other end to locate exactly where noise is coming from. BE CAREFUL NOT TO STICK HOSE INTO SPINNING PARTS. If noise is from bottom of engine bearings may be shot. However, it could be mechanic left some part loose and that would be an easy fix.

Suzuki should have stayed with just motorcycles. Anyway, You just had the oil changed. Check and see if they changed the filter also. They may have forgot or were just to lazy. Just a chance the oil filter is bad, I would replace it again(is the oil clean on the dipstick?). Add a higher viscosity oil. At 67,000 miles, you would have to drive dirt roads all the time, with no air filter to get sludge to clog the head ports. Which is slow drain of oil to the pan. The oil pump? well it could be, most likely not. I would say the oil sending unit is bad, but the knocking noise kind of throws that off. Knocking is bad, if it happens again, pull off and shut the engine down. One other thing to watch is the temperature gauge. getting really hot will cause knocking. Check coolant level and the thermostat.

Engine Knocking.

I would expect the engine is damaged.
You'll need to check the oil pressure and try to narrow down the area where the sound is coming from to proceed.
A very loud knock is probably a piston or rod bearing.

Engine knocking noise

I currently own a 2003 isuzu rodeo that i purchased new in 2003 i recently changed the oil and was driving and heard a loud knocking / banging noise . I immediately pulled over and shut it off ,popped the hood and checked the oil only to find out i had plenty of oil. i asked a mechanic he told me to replace the oil pump and i did , but it still makes the same noise. it only has 80,000 miles what else could be wrong?

Knocking noise

First confirm the oil level is adequate by checking the dip stick. If the oil level is okay you may have a partial blockage that is starving the oil line leading to the sensor. Missed regularly scheduled oil changes may result in this happening.
If sludge is the problem your dealer can recommend an oil additive that may clear out the problem.
You may also have a failed sensor as well.

No if the oil light has flickered you have oil pressure loss some time just belive the sensor do help us out. lifter do not cause oil pressure loss pressure is built in the rotation of the crankshaft. The knock under the plenum will point you to that cylinder that is affected, (main bearing) as for a 1995 the injectors can only cause a misfire but no knocking noise, will they honor the warranty

Oil light comes on and the engine begins to make a knocking sound

how much oil is left in the engine ?
the smoke was probaly oil burning, the knocking could be from low oil pressure, this could be very bad.check the oil and coolant levels and repost and let me know how they are.if any oil shows on the dipstick smell it and see if it smells burnt.
