Pinion nut torque spec chev

If you have an 8.6" ring you should have a 10 bolt axel. With this axel you don't torque the pinion nut. This style axel has a crush collar. Down below I forwarded the preload torque specs. If you do have a 12 bolt axel, the ring gear does get torqued but the ring gear will not be 8.6" Please write back if you need anything thing else. Pinion Preload New: 14 to 19 in-lbs Pinion Preload Reused: 6 to 8 in-lbs

The same book that I hope you used in setting the ring and pinion backlash will give you the ( Rolling Torque). Once the pinion nut is set, a new crush sleeve will be required to correct. This axel will not go around the block if back lash is not correct.

We are talking rear end hear correct . However torque isn't spicific to vehicles what it is spicific to is the grade of the metal V S the treard pitch V S the size of the shaft and nut .Most poinion nuts are what is called flange nuts witch means there is a base on the nut and you need 2 differant wrenches to install or remove one to hold one side and the other to break it free on tighten .The problem here is its hard to know with a torque wrench on the nut and an open end wrench on the pinion side . So take to big open ended wrenches and crank them together as tight as you can . this gives you x2 torque but the spec about 65 ftlbs to 90 lbs for most although you will not be able to measure acuralty

Yoke torque is 400 foot pounds. to crush the crush washer to seat the bearings,,, after the crush washer is seated i believe it 100 foot pounds,,use a little red lock tight if its a used nut,,,setting up a rearend is a complecated and time comsuming deal,,need many specilized tools,,,easyer to replace whole rearend from salvage yard cost about the same

170 ft.lbs is the minimum; be aware that this differential uses a crush sleeve to set the backlash and the pinion torque is what crushes the crush sleeve. If you don't set the backlash correctly you can grind up your differential gears.

The pinion nut does not have a torque spec. as in how tight the nut is. The amount of torque is measured in bearing preload. You will need a "torque to rotate" torque wrench. If you are using new bearings the torque spec. is 15-25 in. lbs. If you are using your old bearings the torque spec. is 10-20 in. lbs to rotate. To measure this you will need to tighten the nut in small increments then use the torque to rotate wrench to turn the pinion without the carrier/ ring gear installed. Repeat until desired torque is reached.

HI, If you have a gmc axel pinion seal nut torque is 270 FT.LBS or 366 NM
If you have a dana axel pinion seal nut torque is 255 FT.LBS or 346 NM

There is no torque specs,this nut has to be tightened back like it was ,the best thing to do,was,to late now,is to use a torque wrench to remove the nut,and remember the torque,and when replacing it,torque it back to that spec,the reason being,there is a crush sleeve between the front pion bearing ,and the rear pinion bearing,and it has to be crushed to a certain amount,to aquire deepness into the ring gear,anyway just give it about 25 lbs torque,any more the crush sleeve will crush even more and the deepness of the pinion will be too much.

Differential bearing caps 70-85 ft lb
Ring gear bolts 70-85 ft lb
Pinion bearing preload if using original bearings 8-14 lb-in, if installing new bearings 16-28 lb-in

On your 05 Chevy 4X4 2500HD.
The Pinion Yoke Nut, 9.75" Axle. the torq spec. is 370 Nm. -- 273 Lb ft.
