Engine looses power, and abs, stc and lampasond lights sometimes comes on...
Got a 1999 S80 T5. The lambda sond, abs and stc lights in the intrument panel goes on form time to time....and ofcourse the abs and the stc functions on the car does not work. I can live with that, but a while after the warning lights has been turned on, the cars looses it's power. The fuel consumption is normal, but it gets a noisy and lazy kind of sound from it's exhaust.....and as i said, there is amlomst no power left in the car. Sometimes it helps to stop the engine, and sometimes it just keep getting better as i drive.....just as it slowly getting worse again later...someone told me about a box that controlls the abs and stc, that is located under the dashboard, that may be the problem with those, but could it be the one causing the engine to "sleep"??

having the same problem with my 1999 s80 2.9 . replaced the abs module twice and still get the brake failure warning. when the ignition key is turned there is a clicking sound from the center console beneath the shifter, then the brake failure warning, and the car will not start. (also after the last abs module replacement the car sometimes gets stuck in park).
the check engine light is probably related to the abs light. have the car scanned to find out wich sensor is bad. it's probably one of the front wheel speed sensors going bad or the abs module is going bad
I have a similar problem, I am going to assume that most of the lights have gone out and you are left with the check engine and a transmission service message. Check the OBD for the error codes and see what they say. If they are P0722, P1618, P1633 it is likely your ABS module. This module appears to have a life span of 5 years to 80,000 miles average before it needs to be replaced. Other symptoms of a bad module would be that the ABS light comes on while driving down the road. Than goes out on the next engine restart or two. Victor Rocha is reconditioning ABS modules for $125.00 and upgrading them to better than factory. There are instructions on the web of where and how to remove the ABS module. This is better than the dealer's new module for $995.00 plus installation.
I have had the same problem with my car for 3 months now. It is the ABS module that needs to be replaces. Ignore the stop ASAP light the brakes will still function as standard brakes. You just don't have ABS brake functionality or STC when those lights are on. Your car should still drive fine. Go on line and order a rebuilt ABS module for about $200 and the problem is solved. Hope that helps.
not a volvo mechanic but on most american cars the abs and stc modules are in direct corilation with the cruise even though the cruise is most likely ran from vacume the disengagement is electrical.
Your ABS Computer is likely failing. They have problems with the solder joints on the circuit board, causing a code to be set and the lights to come on. Very common on this vehicle!
the ring you mention removed is called the exciter ring and is a vital part of the abs system to work properly so have new ring fitted asap this is why abs light etc is on in the uk this would fail mot safety test i am surprised the garage?? did ot renew this exciter ring? knowing it affects the abs ie makes it none operational should it need to operate ? also if involved in accident? and car brakes are checked this serious fault may have an effect on insurance claim hope this explaines??
