Not sure what year you have, but you might try leaving the key in the "ON" position for about 15 minutes and see if the security light goes off, if it does it should start for you. The lock cylinder halo will need changing fi it works.
The key trick involves the security system. If the chip in the key fails, the security system will prevent the engine from starting. Have you tried a different key ?
You have a little black chip on your key That microchip is read be the lock cyl and lets the ign swich power up its so no can steal you car by hot wiring it.the dealer can reprogram key but will cost a few bucks a new cyl comes programed 150-175 Some chevys if you leave key on for 15 mins turn off back on 15 mins off back 15 mins will program the thrid time 15 mins is up the will flash norm agian. if not you can measure resitance on chip on key and link together resitors together and loop around ign cyl and it will start do that a few times all the ones i did where 8ohms
Hi, I had the same problem with mine. It is the security feature. turn your key over to acc for 15 min. or until the security light stops blinking, then turn your key off and try to start it, it should work just fine:)
the ignition swith reads the key chip when key is turned, this is a common problem, the ignition switch will need to be replaced, after replacing the swith reprograming will be needed, to program you will need a battery charger to keep battery from going dead, after installing new switch, turn charger on, turn key to crank then release key leaving ignition on, you will see the dash lights, leave key on for about 15-20 min, until you see theft light go out, if light doesnt go out then repeat process, crank for 2 sec, then leave key on 15-20 mins until security/theft light goes out, hope this helps.
Yes It may be the security. Leave the key on for 15 min. than turn off and try starting the car. The PCM will relearn security codes and alow fuel and starter signal. Tell me haw it worked. [email protected]
1. turn the key to start the engine then immediatley release it to the on position. Keep it on the on position for 15 min. Watch the security light. The light should go out in 10-15 min. Turn the key off and wait 10 seconds.
repeat that same process 2 more times. After that your car should start. i had this same problem. Mine is a 03 but im assuming yours has the pass lock security on it also..
Put your key in turn it on dont start wait 10 mins remove key wait 10 seconds repeat this a total of 3 times. If that dont work try a different key do the same thing. If that dont work a dealer needs to probably replace and reprogram your ignition switch and keys
The security light is staying on because 1 of 2 things, both of which relate to the vehicles VATS (vehicle ani-theft system). You know that little black bump in your key? Well thats part of the VATS system. There is a connection in the ignition that reads the resistance of the pellet. If its not the right one, the security light disables the ignition and starter for 3-5 mins. Now either the wiring is loose on the inside of the ignition switch, or the metal contacts of the key is dirty. Try cleaning the key off with some rubbing alcohol and try again. Or better yet, if you have a spare key that gets used less often, try that one. If that dosent work, its time for a new ignition
