97 nissan altima - 78K - Coolant leak from area above oil pan

I am having a 97 nissan altima - 78k - This weekend I noticed some coolant leak in the ground, I looked underneath and found coolant trace on the places above the Oil pan(it should be dripped from the area somewhat above the oil pan I guess). This happens only when the car is standing in the same place for more than 1 day during weekends. Could you please tell me what might be the cause? - (Any hoses??).

Freeze plugs or casting plugs are prone to leaking . What vehicle do you have ?

Coolant pipes, hoses , thermostat housing and water pumps all can leak .

If you can get it up on ramps or jack it up . Whichever way you raise it put jack stands under it for safety . Wear safety goggles and take a bright light to see if you can tell where the leak originates .

You need to replace the thermostat in the radiator, they are very inexpensive and most times you can replace it yourself, if that doesn't help, drain the radiator and buy a drain kit and radiator cleaner, it will remove rust corrosions and anything else blocking up the flow, replace fluids and check to see if it runs properly, worst case senario is that your water pump needs to be replace cause Nissans are notorious or I should say Older models are and water pump seems to be the thing that goes out before anything else

SOURCE: Nissan Altima 2000 - Engine oil leaking problem.

replace the front oil seal. first i would clean the engine with purple power (degrease etc.) then look at the engine and make sure the leak is not coming from above like possibly the valve cover gasket or from the oil sending unit. try to tighten the bolts on the valve cover and even the oil pan. you never know, you may get lucky. i don't know where you are but front seals are cheap but the labor on the job is what costs you.

97 GMC Jim 4x4 oil leak not noticeable from top for sides of eng can't c where its coming from underneath either u told me it could b r c gasket where is that located on eng v6 no knocking from eng

is it an oil leak or other fluid --under engine you have the oil filter - power steering lines-transmission pan ,lines -transfer case -front c/v axles and center ham -coolant-brake fluid-and gas all these lines are at the back of the trucks engine you need to look at whats wet and where to pin point a fluid leak best is by color trans-power steering usually redish --oil, transfer, axle, blackish ---coolant green or red --brake, tan

Our 2004 Isuzu Rodeo has developed a coolant leak. The leak appears to be around or above a little panel or plate immediately behind the oil pan? Cannot find any other source. What is inside the littl

You will have to clarify behind the oil pan. Front of engine towards fan. Rear of engine transmission side. Or above the pan towards engine side. If there is coolant leaking from behind the engine (between the engine and trans) and is not running down from above eg head gasket or hose connection, chances are good that there is a frost plug leaking on the rear of the block.

Coolant leak

Pull your oil dipstick and look at the level and appearance of what's on the stick.

If the oil level is WAY high, and it looks like chocolate milk, that's where your coolant is going.

It means either the head gasket is blown, or the cylinder head, or the engine block is cracked.

Nissan maxima 2000. Oil dipstick level shows too high. Regular oil changes done and filter with proper amount added. White smoke alerted me to recheck things. Only thing I found was dipstick shows oil

If the oil level goes up, something has to be leaking into the engine oil pan.
That would either be gasoline from the injectors or coolant from the radiator. If you are not adding coolant, it could be a leaking injector.

That would be most unusual for an almost new Altima. Can you be more specific as to where the leak is coming from? Is it possible the coolant tank is overfilled?

Probably an oil pump, will it still do this if you rev the engine a little while stopped? If not then you have an oil pump that could be failing or hopefully it is the pressure sensor that is off. either way don't chance it
