How do i adjust the transmission bands in my 96 explorer? i have reverse and that is it.

This is not a problem you can fix. It would be your best bet to take it to a transmission shop and let them diagnose the problem. The bands could be worn out or they may be able to adjust it for you. I have never tried to adjust them myself but I do know it is not a problem the average person can fix.

I wish I had better news for you. I wish you luck.

Had my 96 jimmy in 4 wd and in low gear now it wont go into park any ideas???

if your vehicle hasnt been in low for a while you could have bent the linkage gettin it in low. there is an adjustment bolt on the rod comin from the column.make sure non of the plastic grommets didnt fall out of the pivots this will put it out of adjustment.

I have a 96 dodge conversion van it won't shift

Bands are adjusted when you first rebuild a unit
& don't wear enough to need readjusting

Most likely time to rebuild it

If that is original, you have gone 17 years, most
don't make 120,000 or ten years

How do i adjust the bands on 96 subaru automatic

I'm afraid adjusting the bands on an automatic isn't a home mechanics job. No movement at all is more than just band adjustment. It sounds more like no fluid or no fluid pressure. Did you check the transmission fluid level? Remember to check it when the car is running with a cleaned off dipstick. Also, there is a screw on filter on the outside of the transmission that changes very easily, just like an oil filter. If that has never been changed on your '96 it may well be clogged, restricting or halting the fluid flow. If you change it, remember to top off the fluid in the transmission after.

My 1998 gmc jimmy transmission is not shifting right. i just had the fluid changed it was black looking. after changing the fluid it shifted ok at first but now the fluid is starting to get dark looking...

I would try changing the fluid and filter again. Sounds to me like there is a lot of crud built up in it and another change would probably do the trick. It probably wouldn't hurt to add a bottle of Lucas Trans Fluid at the same time. It will help extend the life of your transmission. Black fluid would likely be clutch material that wears off over time.
If this doesn't work you are likely in the market for another trans. Hope this helps.

2000 GMC Jimmy, atuomatic, v6,2wh dr - NO

You lost reverse band will need to have the back part of the transmission torn down to repair, if your lucky it will be about $450.00 or if not it will be about $1600.00 for a complete overhaul. They have a problem with the rear main shaft seal. You may also may get lucy with just being a bad servo or stuck piston or a shift lever out of adjustment.
