cant say i have worked on one of these YET but if their is no obvious connection just a compression join then take it off the other end as it could be all one piece with the rad

These lines just run straight through the radiator to provide cooling. You can bypass the radiator by adding a transmission fluid cooler, during the cold weather in a pinch, a replacement transmission hose with 2 clamps can be connected between the 2 transmission lines to correct leakage, but in warm weather, the fluid suffers if it doesn't get the benefit of a cooler.
Aftermarket coolers are relatively inexpensive, especially compared to the long term benefit of keeping the fluid degrees cooler, prolonging the life of the trans.

they are a type of quick connect fitting. There is a special tool just for these types of fittings. If you remove the plastic cover that goes over the fitting you will see a metal clip in a groove. You can use a small pick to carefully remove the clip (they go flyin and get lost easily but they are available from your local GM dealer or parts store). Once the clip is removed you will be able to pull the line out of the radiator/transmission fitting.
Reinstall the clip after you remove the line. The new line will slide in and click into place.

No the transmission fluid will not hurt the water pump at all. And water won't destroy the transmission unless it has been over a long period of time. I would have both flushed. The cooling system and the transmission. If you don't flush the coolant system the transmission fluid will turn to a gummy substance and will plug up your heater core.
