I took my truck into the shop and they told me the EGR valve needed to be replaced but that it would cost $700 to fix the problem. They stated that not only do you have to replace the EGR valve but you also have to clean out the intake to get rid of the build up from the EGR valve. I can replace the EGR myself but is it true that you either have to remove the intake to clean or have a tool to clean it out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
If it is not just badly clogged, the intake does not need to be cleaned out. If you want to clean it out then take some brake cleaner and spray it in there and wipe it with a rag. I have never seen someone have to clean the intake due to not being clogged. Just my expierence I would just change the EGR and go from there

I did go ahead and change the EGR valve myself this morning and though it helped it is still running dogish. It is only at low RPM's. Is there another issue that could be causing it besides the EGR?
