Noise sounds like its coming from the belt and increases as I press on the gas. The noise also changes as I turn the wheel, but after about 15-20 mins in the car, the noise is gone and doesnt return until the car sits for a little. Is this a belt issue or worse? Thanks
Sounds like a power steering belt to me. I have the same problem on my car right now, have the belt, just haven't changed it because who likes working on their own car right? You might be able to tighten the belt up and even if you have to replace it shouldn't cost more than $20 or so. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.
Honestly, there's no way to tell without a visual inspection. Look at the ribbed side of the belt and check it for cracks, broken ribs, and little chunks missing out of it. If the belt is in good condition, it is going to be one of the pulleys it rides on or a faulty tensioner.
If it is a growling it is most likely a bad bearing and if it is a squeaking noise, it is most likely a misalignment problem.
Good luck.
