Engine wont start
Ok this could be several things you could check:
No gas: First of all, make sure it's got gas. I don't care if the gauge says you have some, they're known to fail.
Now, if it's fuel injected, have someone turn the key to the "ON" position. You should hear the fuel pump prime the system with a small whirring. You may not be able to hear this unless it's quiet outside. On most Beemers the fuel pump is under neath the car along the frame rail. Mine used to be on the driver's side.
If the fuel pump is in the tank, simply unscrew your gas cap and stick your ear up to the filler neck, have someone turn key. Hear something? That's your fuel pump. If you don't hear anything, take to a mechanic, because it'll get complicated.
OK, if you got gas, then you can check your pressure by using a fuel pressue gauge. You may have to "T" this into a fitting on the fuel rail, or it may already have a port. If so, plug it in, turn the key, and see what it reads, If nothing, or really low, then fuel pump may be bad.
No spark: Pull a plug wire, then pullout a spark plug. Put plug in wire, now hold wire WITH PLIERS against a bolt or other conductor. Have someone try to crank. Did you see a spark? Well you got spark. If not, take to a mechanic.
If you have spark and gas, then it should run, UNLESS:
Timing belt broke: Unscrew your oil cap. You should see mechanical thingies in there(camshaft, vavles, etc). Now stand back a little. Have someone turn the engine over. If the engine turns over and nothing moves on top, then that's bad. Take to a mechanic. Then go rob a bank. You'll need it.
Good luck! Leave comments!
