My husband started up our 2011 chevy cruze to get the defrosters going. He got out of the car to get something our of the garage. The door closed and then locked. I thought the car had to be out of park to lock the doors when the engine is on.

I just fixed my 2005 Aveo door lock. like so many it fell in to the inside and was hitting the window rod and locking. The fix was not to bad, I removed the 3 screws on the bottom door panel, one in the center of door pull and the one behind the arm pull. Then the door panel can be pulled out and up to unhook it from the window seam. I did not un hook the linkage from the door handel, I just slid panel down and let it hang to the side. Then peel the water film back so you can reach in and get the key lock back in to the hole. I found that my lock had rotated down and needed to be rotated back so the screw arm lines back up with the screw hole. I found a replacement screw in my screw tin that worked, tested it and it worked fine. Just revers the door panel removal proceduer making shur that the two hooks on back of the door handel cup is hooked into the two slots on door frame ot it will stick out and you will not be able to put the one screw in, dun deal.
Hope this helps

Replace the rear door pin-switch if needed after testing proper operation.
It is telling the alarm the door is open all the time.
Most likely corroded terminals or wire.

You have a intermittent condition. To isolate the cause: 1.Disconnect the drivers door lock/unlock switch from the connector. Drive the vehicle and see if your random lock/unlock condition has stopped. If it has, replace the switch. If it hasn't:
2. You have a grounding problem or a problem in the BCM (Body Control Module) and should have a technician use a Tech 2 Diagnostic Link Tool to access the BCM computer to obtain any fault code data to help correct the condition.
