Replace the fuel filter and the fuel pump . check for fuel pressure . The injectors may be rusted up in the tips and wire connections may be corroded up and not working

what is the fuel pressure reading, bet it's zero. replace the fuel pump and the fuel filter. when fuel gets old it gums up the pump and it won't spin and produce pressure, very common complaint on stored cars, i.e. no fuel pressure.

When a vehicle has been left for a long time without being started it will need the following: New fuel, New battery, change of engine oil, possibly transmission oil and brake fluid as well. All fluids in the engine will tend to settle and separate out over time if left. Ideally you start the engine weekly if you put a car aside.

Thats not very costly the relay is cheap. The tune up you probably need is what will be costly. Coil, Cap, Rotor, Wires and plugs also maybe the OVP relay. Can you hear the fuel pumps when you try and start it? It doesnt have to turn over they should come on for a few seconds when the ignition is in the on position.

I had the same problem with my 1998 forester and it was my alternator and very easy to fix just when you go to take it off make sure your battery is disconnected and make sure that your belt is on all pulleys but battery has to be disconnected or will trip your starter relay and will not start after that

What's the engine compresion ? sitting that long can cause engine ring problem , Did you clean the injectors or replace . fuel gummed up ! Clean fuel lines . Or when you parked it did you run it till fuel ran out , pulled fuel pump fuse ? Squirt some oil into the cylinders an turn it over a few times . These are a few thing's that should be done before leaving a vehicle to sit. Flush out fuel lines too

The gasoline has probably turned into varnish. You will have to drain out all or most of the old gas.

My 1999 forester had been sitting for 1 year.it ran fine when parked, now it starts but wouldnt keep running.i unhooked fuel line and turned on ignition fuel comes out for 3 to 4 seconds then quits.a dealer...

The fuel should only come out for a 3-4 seconds that is because the pump shuts of due to no resistance (safety reasons) the ECM thinks the fuel line has leaked and cuts off the fuel. But -----the question is that your vehicle shuts off on its on I would change the spark plugs, wires, air filter and fuel filter and then you should be fine.

Drain the fuel out, and put fresh fuel in. Prime the engine with some fresh fuel, and try to strt it. the fuel we get now has no chemical savers in it like it use to. Gas will turn into turpentine after a year or so of setting.
