Checks if rear brakes are grabbing check all wheels to see if one is hot.Was old filter bad?You could have alot of trash in the gas tank.Is air filter clean?Sparkplugs good, and wires.

  • Elliott Liden Jan 06, 2014

No brakes are grabbing. It is something to do with engine/exhaust, something like that. All breaks are fine. The oil is still clean, and the oil filter was changed with the oil, so I dont think its the filter. Trash in the gas tank could be it. And I really dont know how to check the sparkplugs/wires. But you wouldnt be the first to say it may be the spark plugs or wires. Or distributor cap, whatever that is. Do you think its possible my cadalidic converter is bad or clogged up? The last time I was at the mechanic to get my wheel bearings changed he said that the car didnt have as much poser as it should and that there was probably a problem with the rear exhaust. It was driving fine, turned it off, and then on again probably 8 hours later and thats when the problem started.

Get a timing light and check it.If the mark is jumping all over the place, your belt has jumped a cog and will need to be replaced.

2001 Camry 5 speed. It starts but it will not move. I can change gears without pushing in clutch. One mechanic said it was clutch and a different one said transmission is out. Which is it?

The clutch is not transferring power to the gearbox, which then is not turning, so that you can select gears without the clutch.Possibilities are
- clutch assembly has failed, possibly by the splined driven plate hub coming adrift
- clutch driven plate has become very worn and has lost contact
- slave cylinder has stuck through corrosion (assuming a hydraulic clutch) and is holding out the clutch independent of the pedal. This can be determined by watching it while someone depresses and raises the pedal.

I think it is unlikely the transmission input shaft has fractured.

if it has a manual gearbox try putting it in gear with the handbrake on otherwise you will have to try & lock the pulley with a wedge (maybe wood ) or the like to stop it turning until you loosen the bolt.....hope this helps.....cheers

What gear to drive in when towing a trailer with toyota camry

Whatever gear the car needs to have the moter spinning without full throttle.Auto and manual are driven differently.Up hill, downhill.Mostly,if its manual you wait a bit longer to change gears.E.g.Normal change revs,3000 rpm,go to 3500rpm with the trailer on.Auto, use the gear selecter and put it back to 3 instead of D and when the car has enough speed, then into D.Drive the auto like a manual on hills etc.to help it.Don't forget that braking distances almost double when you have a trailer on.Hope this helps

1989 Toyota Camry

Hi,

On an 89 Toyota Camry with manual transmission, two possible reasons:
  • clutch;
  • release bearing
Try bleeding the clutch on the slave cylinder. If this does not prove to be corrective, you may have to have the transmission/clutch checked/repaired/replaced. In some instances, it could just be a sticking release bearing or clutch fork.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
