This error is caused by a connection that's loose or damaged, or because the compass hasn't calibrated correctly. Check out the owner's manual to find that the calibration process for your particular zone, then go to an open parking lot to complete the process.

SOURCE: Compass Module Error

The module is likely loose or has a loose connection. On my 2006 Escape, it sits on the dash driver's side. I had something on my dash and when I made a turn....it slid accross the dash and hit the module. It knocked it out of place and displayed an Error on The Dash. Hope it helps.

For optimum calibration, drive to an open, level location away from large metallic objects or structures such as bridges, steel buildings, etc. Disable aftermarket electronic accessories and switch off all non essential electrical accessories (heated rear window, heater fan, A/C, map lamps and wipers) and make sure all doors are closed. Start the vehicle. NOTE: The vehicle remains in the CAL mode until the compass has been successfully calibrated. NOTE: While holding the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) 7 and 9 buttons down, the compass display first enters the ZONE setting mode (after 5 seconds) and then after another 5 seconds (approximately 10 seconds total), the compass display enters the CAL mode. Press and hold (for approximately 10 seconds) the FCIM 7 and 9 buttons until the CAL indicator appears in the display, then release the buttons. NOTE: If the CAL indicator does not turn off after the vehicle is driven in a circle at least 5 times, repeat the procedure. Drive the vehicle slowly at less than 5 km/h (3 mph) in a continuous circle until the CAL indicator disappears from the display and the compass heading is shown. If the CAL message does not turn off after driving in a circle at least 5 times (and the procedure has been repeated at least once), install a new compass module (integral to the interior rear view mirror). For additional information, refer to Interior Rear View Mirror.

How do i reset the compass on a 2006 dodge grand caravan

Hi Roger, I'm glad to help. Below is the procedure for resetting the compass on your vehicle.

COMPASS VARIATION ADJUSTMENT Compass variance, also known as magnetic declination, is the difference in angle between magnetic north and true geographic north. In some geographic locations, the difference between magnetic and geographic north is great enough to cause the compass to give false readings. If this problem occurs, the compass variance setting may need to be changed.
To set the compass variance:

1. Using the Variance Settings map, find your geographic location and note the zone number Figure 1.
22681.jpg Figure 1 - Variance Settings 2. Turn the ignition switch to the On position. If the compass/thermometer data is not currently being displayed, momentarily depress and release the C/T push button to reach the compass/thermometer display. 3. On Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Compass Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) equipped vehicles depress the Reset push button and hold the button down until "VAR = XX" appears in the display. This takes about five seconds. On Compass Temperature Module (CT) equipped vehicles depress the C/T push button and US/M push button down until "VAR = XX" appears in the display. This takes about five seconds. 4. Release the push button(s). "VAR =XX " will remain in the display. "XX" equals the current variance zone setting. 5. On Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Compass Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) equipped vehicles momentarily depress and release the STEP button to step through the zone numbers, until the zone number for your geographic location appears in the display. On Compass Temperature Module (CT) equipped vehicles depress the US/M push button to step through the zone numbers, until the zone number for your geographic location appears in the display. 6. On Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Compass Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) equipped vehicles momentarily depress and release the RESET push button to enter the displayed zone number into the EVIC/CMTC module memory. On Compass Temperature Module (CT) equipped vehicles depress the C/T push button to enter the displayed zone number into the electronic module memory. 7. Confirm that the correct directions are now indicated by the compass.
