2001 gmc sonoma no start

I have a 2001 gmc sonoma extended cab 4 cylinder. this past 2 weeks the truck will not start. when i turn the key forward once all the lights on the cluster light up as normal but i don't hear the fuel pump turn on either. when i turn the key all the way the truck doesn't crank or anything doesn't make any sounds at all. i checked all the fuses and they were all good someone told me it could be a bad ignition switch so i changed it. the truck started fine for 2 days and ran fine. i go to start it today and nothing no crank no noise and no fuel pump turning on. when i turn the key forward once every single light on the dash comes on and stays on. now i am being told it can be a bad ground somewhere in the truck. please help i am going crazy trying to figure this problem out.

Hey there boatright33,

A few things things immediately come to mind.

There may be a problem with the engine controller. You could check the ODBII onboard diagnostics. Auto part stores will usually do this for you at no cost.

When you pulled the ones that were/went bad, how did the filters look? Could there be particulate matter still in the tank causing them to fail.

I always put this one off until last. Check the injectors. Are they gummed up?

Let me know what you find out
Mike

SOURCE: shuts off while driving. no fuel pressure. pcm fuse blows/ fuel pump relay inserted.

Sounds like the fuel pump is shorted.

firstly where is fuel pump relay as i have never seen a GMC jimmy sorry about that but have you ever seen a foden ?? well the first thing is to check the fuse,if fuse is ok which can be checked by looking at it as its transparent or a piece of wire with a light bulb .across the battery.to find the relay is easy if you dont know where it is,When this piece of americana decides to work just turn ignition on and listen for the click of relay ,then when it doesnt start listen for click again or rather an absence of a click, sounds more like a dodgy pump in the tank or the connections going to it.when it wont start try thumping the fuel tank with the ignition on and if it is a sticky pump you might hear it start then at least you will know where the fault is.Another fault that i have come across with relays is that where the relay is passing a heavy load then its possibe for the contacts to burn inside the relay. When this happens then if it is possible to seperate the relay cover and clean the contacts with a points file (remember them ) or a piece of fine emery paper if the cover breaks taking it apart then use a bit of black insulating tape to repair the cover.Thats assuming the pump is in the tank and not bolted to the chassis near the fuel tank but that design with external pump i havent seen on a europeon car for nearly 20yrs .

The oil presure switch does have some bearing on the problem but my suggestion is to change the coil. I had a the same problem with an astro van. I changed everything that you have described and it fixed the problem just for a little while and then all of a sudden did it again. I changed the coild and the cold start swithch and never had the problem again.

Gmc sonoma no start

You could avoid that by taking it to a qualified repair shop ! Because it obvious you do not know how to do automotive electerical testing ! How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit First off you need to know how the system works , all componets in the circuit . How to find a wiring diagram , how to use a volt meter . And in a lot of caes the ignition switch is a input to a control module , BCM - body control module ,PCM - powertrain control module etc...
Starter Voltage Drop

There is also a park neutral safety switch , starter relay in the under hood fuse box .

This evening my 2001 GMC Sonoma was in 4-wheel drive. As I was backing out of a parking spot, I heard a clunk and had no brakes. I continued to back up with no brakes and then finally felt my brakes coming...

I would not drive that truck 1 more foot until that brake situation is rectified! No the 4 wheel drive cannnot make the brakes go out, they are 2 seperate systems entirely and have aero to do with the other as far as operation. This is a very dangerous condition and needs to be fixed BEFORE you ever drive it again! Brakes go out , dual reservoir master cylinders have a less likelihood of total failure than the old single reservoir types, so you should of had 2 wheels diagonally enen if a brake system failure has occured! better fix this one and before you drive it anywhere!! You could die and or kill someone!

My 2002 gmc sonoma (extended cab sls) will not start i have changed plugs and wires fuel pump and fuel filter i have done oil change and air filter change. the truck will fire if i give it a spray off...

My engine light in my 2002 GMC Sonoma has been on for the past four weeks. Yesterday I had an oil change done on my truck with a local mechanic. He turned the engine light off, but it came on soon after leaving his shop.
This morning I went to start my truck and there was NO power whatsoever. After repeatedly turning the key, I soon saw a slight movement on the battery display, but no lights would come on. It just seemed like it wasn't getting any power. I changed the battery two years ago, so it should be fine.
Eventually, the truck received full power and started, more less out of no where. It wouldn't hold an idle and would just die if i took my foot off the gas.
Hopefully someone has a solution for me.
Thanks.

Maybe the main Ignition relay in your fuse box or on the firewall. Faulty relay can cause intermittent no-power situations.
